The uptake rate of phenol by washed cells of Pseudomonas putidagrown on phenol in fermenter in an un steady state, caused by the step increase of dilution rate and/or phenol concentration in the feed, was studied. The Monod-Haldane type equation was applied to fit the data and the best kinetic parameters were calculated by nonlinear least-square techniques. It was found that the minimum period of unsteady state required for induction of the phenol metabolic pathway was approximately 30 min. The values of kinetic parameters in an unsteady state varied according to each parameter. The values of u(m) first monotonically increased to reach their highest value after about 120 min and then monotonically decreased to equal the u(m) in new steady state after about five residence times. No regularity in changing of K(s) and K(i), in unsteady state was observed. However, the greatest change in the values of K(i), was 45% while the change in values of K(s) was as much as two times compared to K(i) and K(s) in steady state prior to disturbance.

This research presents a numerical study over the unsteady natural convection of an electrically conducting fluid in an open-ended vertical parallel plate microchannel under uniform and asymmetric heat flux subjected to a uniform lateral magnetic field. Slip velocity, as well as temperature jump at channel walls, are modeled using a first-order model. The effects of Knudsen number)(, heat flux ratio)rq(, Grashof number)(, and Hartmann number)M(on mass flow rate, the maximum temperature of the wall, and average Nusselt () as a function of time are discussed.

Induction heating is one of the cleanest and most efficient methods for heating materials, utilizing electromagnetic fields induced through AC electric current. This article reports an analytical solution for transient heat transfer in a three-dimensional (3D) cylindrical object under induction heating. A simplified form of Maxwell's equations is solved to determine the heat generation inside the cylinder by calculating the current density distribution within the body.

This study investigates a comprehensive enhancement strategy for photovoltaic (PV) panel efficiency, focusing on increasing electrical output through the integration of parabolic reflectors, advanced cooling mechanisms, and thermoelectric generation. Parabolic reflectors are implemented in the system to maximize solar irradiance on the PV panel's surface, while a specialized cooling system is introduced to regulate temperature distribution across the silicon layer. This cooling system consists of a finned duct filled with paraffin (RT35HC) and enhanced with SWCNT nanoparticles, which improve the thermal properties of the paraffin, facilitating more effective heat dissipation.

The main objectives of this work are to validate a 1D-0D unsteady solver with a distributed stenosis model for the patient-specific estimation of resting haemodynamic indices and to assess the sensitivity of instantaneous wave-free ratio (iFR) predictions to uncertainties in input parameters. We considered 52 patients with stable coronary artery disease, for which 81 invasive iFR measurements were available. We validated the performance of our solver compared to 3D steady-state and transient results and invasive measurements.
