In this paper, a combination of multi-syringe chromatography analysis technique with extraction disks sorbents for the pre-concentration and determination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan potassium in superficial water, groundwater and wastewater outlet samples has been developed. The system developed was proved for the determination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan potassium in spiked water samples with recoveries ranging from 95 to 118%. The method involves the on-line enrichment of the targeted analytes from spiked water samples onto a Cation-SR sorbent material. The analytes are subsequently eluted and transported to the monolithic column, Chromolith Flash RP-18e column (25 mmx4.6 mm i.d.). The mobile phase used was 10 mM potassium dihydrogen phosphate (pH 3.0):acetonitrile:methanol (60:30:10 v/v/v), flow-rate 0.8 mL min(-1). UV detection is carried out at 226 nm. Under the optimized chemical and physical variables, the detection limit for hydrochlorothiazide and losartan potassium calculated as 3Syx/b was 0.07 and 0.09 mgL(-1), respectively, for a sample loading volume of 1.0 mL.

Hypertension and dyslipidemia are two of the most frequently co-occurring cardiovascular risk factors. The combined regimen of hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), rosuvastatin (ROS), and losartan (LOS) helped in the successful management of both conditions. This work's objective is to develop an eco-friendly, sensitive, simple, and reliable chromatographic method for the simultaneous estimation of HCTZ, ROS, and the LOS ternary mixture in their pure form, and pharmaceutical formulations.

A low-cost and renewable magnetite-pine bark (MPB) sorbent was evaluated in continuous-flow systems for the removal of various pharmaceuticals from municipal wastewater effluent following membrane bioreactor (MBR) treatment. A 33-day small-scale column test (bed volume: 791 cm) was conducted using duplicate columns of biochar (BC, Novocarbo) and activated carbon (AC, ColorSorb) as reference for two columns of BC and MPB in order to compare the efficiency of AC and MPB. After the small-scale column test, the pharmaceutical concentrations were generally below the detection limit.

The prevalence of hypertension increases with age and is the leading modifiable risk factor for cognitive impairment and dementia. At present, the neural mechanisms promoting hypertension across the lifespan are incompletely understood. Using the Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat as a model of normal aging, we hypothesized (1) blood brain barrier (BBB) disruption and neuroinflammation in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus enhances sympathetic tone and contributes to age-dependent hypertension, (2) age-dependent hypertension is associated with cognitive impairment, and (3) lowering blood pressure in aged rats with established hypertension improves cognitive function.

Noncardiogenic pulmonary edema has been reported as a rare adverse reaction of hydrochlorothiazide. Symptoms can develop acutely after medication ingestion, and patients may present acutely ill. The mechanism by which hydrochlorothiazide causes pulmonary edema remains unknown and is considered idiosyncratic.

Introduction: Eprosartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) used for management of essential hypertension. With unique pharmacological characteristics, dual action mechanism, and clinical effectiveness, eprosartan offers additional advantages over other ARBs in specific patient populations.
Areas Covered: A comprehensive review of the literature was performed across publicly available databases, with no time limitations, to ensure the inclusion of all relevant studies.
