Lung cancer, particularly non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, significantly limits treatment efficacy. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have emerged as key regulators of cancer progression and chemotherapy resistance due to their stable structure, which protects them from degradation.

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare neoplastic disease affecting the lung, kidney, and lymphatic system with a molecular mechanism of tuberous sclerosis complex 2 (TSC2) mutations. Vascular endothelial growth factor D (VEGF-D), a ligand for vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 (VEGFR3), is a diagnostic biomarker of LAM and is associated with lymphatic circulation abnormalities. This study explored the interaction between LAM cells and lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) and the effects of rapamycin on this interaction, which may help to identify new targets for LAM treatment.

In this study, the anti-inflammatory effect of the hot water extract of Endarachne binghamiae (EB-WE), a type of marine brown algae, was investigated in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells and an acute lung injury (ALI) mouse model induced by intranasal LPS administration. Treatment with EB-WE significantly inhibited NO and pro-inflammatory cytokine (TNF-a and IL-6) production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.

Pulmonary hypertension associated with lung diseases and/or hypoxia is classified as group 3 in the clinical classification of pulmonary hypertension. The efficacy of existing selective pulmonary vasodilators for group 3 pulmonary hypertension is still unknown, and it is currently associated with a poor prognosis. The mechanisms by which pulmonary hypertension occurs include hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction, pulmonary vascular remodeling, a decrease in pulmonary vascular beds, endothelial dysfunction, endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs), inflammation, microRNA, and genetic predisposition.

Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally, with a persistently low five-year survival rate of only 14-17%. High rates of metastasis contribute significantly to the poor prognosis of NSCLC, in which inflammation plays an important role by enhancing tumor growth, angiogenesis, and metastasis. Targeting inflammatory pathways within cancer cells may thus represent a promising strategy for inhibiting NSCLC metastasis.
