Background: Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) presents with various esophageal motility disorders, and some cases of hypercontractile esophagus (HE) are associated with eosinophilic esophageal myositis (EoEM). This study aimed to compare the clinical characteristics of patients with EoE and EoEM according to their esophageal motility.
Methods: The 28 patients with EoE and 2 patients with EoEM were divided into three groups based on esophageal motility: normal motility group, hypomotility group, and spastic contraction group.

Background: Patients with chronic illness affecting the esophagus often modify their eating habits to manage symptoms. Although this begins as a protective strategy, anxiety around eating can become problematic, and lead to poor outcomes. We administered a survey to examine the factors associated with problematic eating behaviors in patients who have reflux and difficulty swallowing (esophageal dysphagia).

A woman in her early 60s was referred with dysphagia and chest pain to a tertiary referral centre specialising in oesophageal disorders. Cardiac symptom origin and sinister oesophageal pathology had been excluded at her local hospital in NHS Scotland. Under multidisciplinary team oversight, reinvestigation of mucosal pathology and oesophageal motility ultimately uncovered both Type III achalasia and eosinophilic oesophagitis.
