Objective: To use a study on dysgeusia to assess the usefulness of an otology database.
Study Design: Data were extracted from the international Common Otology Database.
Intervention: Primary stapes operations.
Main Outcome Measure And Results: From a cohort of 14 otologists, only 8 (57%) were able to satisfy external validation and maintain data input for a period of at least 6 months. The rates of dysgeusia varied from 0 to 39% at 3 months and 0 to 27% at 6 months. The percentages of patients with taste disturbance at 6 months in the "nerve-cut" and "nerve-preserved" groups were 22.7 and 10.9%, respectively, although this was not statistically significant (chi2; p = 0.325).
Conclusion: Many surgeons found it difficult to maintain a prospective otology database. The rates of certain subjective symptoms such as dysgeusia are influenced by how vigorously the reviewers prompt the response from the patients. Dysgeusia after stapes surgery is common even if the chorda tympani nerve is preserved. Many patients whose chorda tympani nerve is divided may not complain of dysgeusia.

Objective: To investigate differences in arterial involvement patterns on F-FDG PET-CT between predominant cranial and isolated extracranial phenotypes of giant cell arteritis (GCA).
Methods: A retrospective review of F-FDG PET-CT findings was conducted on 140 patients with confirmed GCA. The patients were divided into two groups: the cranial group, which presented craniofacial ischemic symptoms either at diagnosis or during follow-up, and the isolated extracranial group which never exhibited such manifestations.

In the current study, the analytical sensitivity, analytical specificity, reproducibility, anti-interferences ability, and clinical performance of the QIAstat-Dx Gastrointestinal Panel (GIP) system were evaluated using pooled stool samples. Results showed that the pooled sample test detected the selected ten targets exclusively, with no cross reaction with any other targets of common enteropathogens. The analytical sensitivity of the pooled sample test on QIAstat-Dx GIP system was 10 CFU/ml for Shigella spp.

Predicting steady-state volume of distribution (V) is a key component of pharmacokinetic predictions and often guided using preclinical data. However, when bottom-up prediction from physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models and observed V misalign in preclinical species, or predicted V from different models varies significantly, no consensus exists for selecting models or preclinical species to improve the prediction. Through systematic analysis of V prediction across rat, dog, monkey, and human, using common methods, a practical strategy for predicting human V, with or without integration of preclinical PK information is warranted.

Background: To investigate the management of recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (rHNSCC) and describe survival outcomes.
Methods: Post hoc subgroup analysis of a retrospective national observational cohort was conducted. All patients with rHNSCC who received a definitive treatment decision between September 1, 2021 and November 30, 2021 were included.
