Introduction: Intravenous iron sucrose (IVIS) is a rapidly acting, safe, and effective treatment for moderate anemia among pregnant women. The effectiveness of IVIS at 6 months post IVIS infusion was unknown. We, therefore, assessed the mean increase in hemoglobin concentration and body iron replenishment status at 6 months after the last dose of IVIS infusion.

Article Synopsis
  • New drug delivery systems that respond to stimuli have been created for injections, focusing on using smart polymers that change at the injection site.
  • Sterility is crucial for all injectable and eye medication forms, and choosing the right sterilization method is key, as it can alter the drug’s properties.
  • There is a lack of research on the risks of sterilizing these sensitive systems, but this review offers recommendations based on existing experimental data to help manage these risks.

University of Connecticut, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Storrs, CT 06269 USA. Electronic address:

Long-acting parenteral drug products are a popular choice for therapeutic areas requiring long term treatment. These products range from dispersed systems such as drug suspensions and polymeric microspheres to in situ forming polymeric implants. The lack of reliable drug release testing methods for these drug products not only impedes the development of new drug products but also affects generic drug development.

Recent malaria drug discovery approaches have been extensively focused on the development of oral, smallmolecule inhibitors for disease treatment whereas parenteral routes of administration have been avoided due to limitations in deploying a shelf-stable injectable even though it could be dosed less frequently. However, an updated target candidate profile from Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) and stakeholders have advocated for long-acting injectable chemopreventive agents as an important interventive tool to improve malaria prevention. Here, we present strategies for the development of a long-acting, intramuscular, injectable atovaquone prophylactic therapy.

Introduction: The rate of pharmacoresistance among in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia is around 30%. Clozapineis the drug of choice for these patients; however, an adequate response to treatment doesn't always occur. One of the possible augmentation approaches, specifically for non-adherent patients, is the administration of long-acting parenteral antipsychotics.
