Physical, chemical and microbiological efficiencies of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) located in Delhi's watershed in context of different treatment technologies employed in these plants have been determined. There were in all seventeen STPs treating domestic wastewater which were studied over a period of 12 months. These STPs were based on Conventional Activated sludge process (ASP), Extended aeration (Ex. Aeration), physical, chemical and biological removal treatment (BIOFORE) and oxidation pond treatment process. Results suggests that except "Mehrauli" STP which was based on Extended aeration process and "Oxidation pond", effluents from all other STPs exceeded FC standard of 10(3) MPN/100 ml for unrestricted irrigation criteria set by National river conservation directorate (NRCD). Actual integrated efficiency (IE(a)) of each STP was evaluated and compared with the standard integrated efficiency (IE(s)) based upon physical, biological and microbiological removal efficiencies depending upon influent sewage characteristics. The best results were obtained for STPs employing extended aeration, BIOFORE and oxidation pond treatment process thus can be safely used for irrigation purposes.

Tidal marshes are often restored on compact agricultural soil that limits tidally induced groundwater dynamics and soil aeration after restoration. We hypothesized that impaired soil aeration affects biogeochemical cycling and leads to altered porewater nutrient concentrations in restored tidal marshes. We studied soil hydraulic properties, groundwater dynamics and porewater nutrient concentrations (nitrogen, phosphorus and dissolved silica) over the course of one year in a natural and a restored freshwater tidal marsh in the Scheldt estuary, Belgium.

Changes in antibiotic resistance of bacteria in three different wastewater treatment plants (WTP) were investigated to determine their role they play in the dissemination of multidrug resistant bacteria (MDR). Water samples were collected from downstream of three (WTP) from where pollution parameters were detected and high-performance Liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with an ultraviolet (UV) detector was used to measure antibiotic residues. In addition, 88 bacilli Gram-negative (BGN) were collected; activated sludge, aerated lagoons and natural lagoons, and tested for resistance against 18 βeta-lactam antibiotics.

The preparation, electrochemistry and photophysical properties of a heteroleptic chromium(III) polypyridyl complex [Cr(TMP)(dppn)] () containing two 3,4,7,8-tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (TMP) ligands and the π-extended benzodipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-]phenazine (dppn) ligand are reported. The visible absorption spectrum of reveals distinct bands between 320 and 420 nm characteristic of dppn-based ligand-centered transitions, with found to be nonemissive in aqueous solution but weakly luminescent in aerated acetonitrile solution. Transient visible absorption (TrA) spectroscopy reveals that 400 nm excitation of leads to initial population of a ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) state which evolves within tens of ps to form a dppn-localized intraligand (IL) state which persists for longer than 7 ns and efficiently sensitizes singlet oxygen.
