Background: Polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) activation by monosodium urate crystals (MSU) is crucial to acute gouty arthritis and subsequent spontaneous remission within 7-10 days. Activated PMNs release neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) that entrap MSU crystals, forming NET-MSU aggregates. Whether NET-MSU aggregates contribute to the resolution of acute inflammation remains to be elucidated.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects not only the joints but also has significant cardiovascular (CV) manifestations. The mechanistic interplay between RA and cardiovascular complications is not yet well understood due to the lack of relevant in vitro models. In this study, we established RA cardiac microtisses (cMTs) from iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes (CMs), endothelial cells (ECs) and cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) to investigate whether this fully human 3D multicellular system could serve as a platform to elucidate the connection between RA and CV disorders.

Inhalation of ambient particulate matter (PM) and ozone (O) has been associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. However, the interactive effects of PM and O on cardiac dysfunction and disease have not been thoroughly examined, especially at a proteomic level. The purpose of this study was to identify and compare proteome changes in spontaneously hypertensive (SH) rats co-exposed to concentrated ambient particulates (CAPs) and O, with a focus on investigating inflammatory and metabolic pathways, which are the two major ones implicated in the pathophysiology of cardiac dysfunction.

A mouse model exhibiting inflammation-derived depressive symptoms was used for the investigation.
Methods: Institute of Cancer Research mice were subjected to a 7-day intervention of either 30% hydrogen or 40 g per day of air via jelly intake.
