Plastid-localized ZmENR1/ZmHAD1 complex ensures maize pollen and anther development through regulating lipid and ROS metabolism.

Nat Commun

December 2024

Research Institute of Biology and Agriculture, School of Chemistry and Biological Engineering, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Beijing, 100083, China.

Lipid metabolism is critical for male reproduction in plants. Many lipid-metabolic genic male-sterility (GMS) genes function in the anther tapetal endoplasmic reticulum, while little is known about GMS genes involved in de novo fatty acid biosynthesis in the anther tapetal plastid. In this study, we identify a maize male-sterile mutant, enr1, with early tapetal degradation, defective anther cuticle, and pollen exine.

Department of Marine Science and Fisheries, College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University, Al Khoud 123 PO Box 34, Muscat, Oman; UNESCO Chair in Marine Biotechnology, CEMB, Sultan Qaboos University, Al Khoud 123, PO Box 50, Muscat, Oman. Electronic address:

This study investigated microplastic pollution in the large mud snail Terebralia palustris (Linnaeus, 1767) (Gastropoda: Potamididae) inhabiting the Avicennia marina mangrove ecosystems along the Sea of Oman. A modified digestion protocol, combining two methods, was employed to improve the detection of microplastics within the snail tissue. Results indicated that 50 % of the examined snails contained microplastics, with significant variability observed among different lagoons.

Native ecosystem and biodiversity loss from land use conversion into human-modified landscapes are evident in the United States and globally. In addition to public land conservation, there is an increase in private land conservation through conservation easements (CEs) across exurban landscapes. Not every CE was established strictly for biodiversity protection and permitted land uses can increase human modification.

Reduction of very huge breast-gigantic macromastia-is a challenge to breast surgeons in choosing the right procedure to obtain an optimal outcome. The feasibility of a superomedial pedicle (SMP) with some modifications proves to be a good option to achieve a viable nipple areolar complex (NAC) with good size and shape after good resection above 800 g.  Out of the 35 patients with 70 breast reductions, 15 can be considered gigantic macromastia with reductions above 800 g.
