Lithium has been among the most important pharmacological treatments of psychiatric disease for more than 50 years. The main indication is treatment and prophylaxis of bipolar disease. Lithium is also used in the treatment of schizophrenia conditions with affective symptoms. The therapeutic effect of lithium is well documented, but it can also cause serious adverse effects. The drug has a narrow therapeutic range and intoxications can occur at normal or low doses. This article reviews guidelines for lithium treatment, including side effects, interactions and intoxications.

Nano-confined Si@C composites with excellent lithium-ion storage performance derived from a POSS-based covalent framework and low-temperature reduction method.

Silicon-based anode materials experience significant volume changes and low conductivity during the lithiation process, which severely hinders their successful application in lithium-ion batteries. Reducing the size of silicon particles and effectively combining them with carbon-based materials are considered the main strategies to enhance the lithium-ion storage performance of silicon-based anodes. In this study, we employed a "bottom-up" strategy to synthesize Si@C anode materials by cross-linking octa-aminopropyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (NH-POSS) with terephthalaldehyde and subsequent high-temperature treatment and low-temperature liquid reduction.

The recycling of spent lithium-ion batteries has become a common concern of the whole society, with a large number of studies on recycling management and recycling technology, but there is relatively little study on the pollution release during the recycling process. Pollution will restrict the healthy development of the recycling industry, which makes relevant research very significant. This paper monitored and analyzed the battery recycling pretreatment process in a formal factory, and studied the pollution characteristics of particulate matter, heavy metals, and microplastics under different treatment stages.

To explore the effect of lithium carbonate combined with olanzapine on glucose and lipid metabolism, as well as gender differences in treating bipolar disorder (BD). 110 BD patients admitted to the Fifth People's Hospital of Luoyang from February 2022 to January 2024 were retrospectively included in the study. Patients were categorized into two groups based on treatment: The single group (lithium carbonate, n = 50) and the coalition group (lithium carbonate + olanzapine, n=60).

Battery technology has attained a key position as an energy storage technology in decarbonization of energy systems. Lithium-ion batteries have become the dominant technology currently used in consumer appliances, electric vehicles (EVs), and industrial applications. However, lithium-ion batteries are not alike and can have different cathode chemistries which makes their recycling more complex.

Surface Hydrophilic Modification of Polypropylene by Nanosecond Pulsed Ar/O Dielectric Barrier Discharge.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

College of Electrical Engineering and Control Science, Nanjing Tech University, Nanjing 211816, China.

Polypropylene (PP) membranes have found diverse applications, such as in wastewater treatment, lithium-ion batteries, and pharmaceuticals, due to their low cost, excellent mechanical properties, thermal stability, and chemical resistance. However, the intrinsic hydrophobicity of PP materials leads to membrane fouling and filtration flux reduction, which greatly hinders the applications of PP membranes. Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) is an effective technique for surface modification of materials because it generates a large area of low-temperature plasma at atmospheric pressure.
