Objectives: The aim of this prospective randomized clinical study was to compare the duration of surgery and the patient's perception of pain after closed and open surgical exposure of unilateral palatally impacted maxillary canines.
Study Design: Palatally impacted canines were exposed in 32 subjects. Half of these subjects had closed-eruption exposure, and the other half had open-eruption exposure. The duration of surgery was measured, and the degree of pain was assessed in the first postoperative week.
Results: The mean surgical duration for the open-eruption technique was 30.9 +/- 10.1 min compared with 37.7 +/- 8.4 min for the closed-eruption technique. This difference was statistically significant (P = .006). Postoperative pain in the 2 groups was not significantly different. However, pain regression was faster in the closed-eruption group.
Conclusions: The surgical duration was significantly shorter in the open-eruption exposure. Postoperative pain was comparable after open- and closed-eruption surgical exposures.

Purpose: Postoperative thirst is common and distressing to patients, as is pain and nausea. The causes of postoperative thirst are complex and include factors like preoperative fasting, perioperative fluid loss, and certain anesthesia medications. Effective care for postoperative thirst has been shown in post-anesthesia care units (PACUs), but many Japanese hospitals lack PACUs or do not address thirst in their PACUs.

Introduction: Pain at the buccal mucosal graft (BMG) harvest site in the immediate postoperative period is common and delays resumption of oral intake. This study compares the time for resumption of pain-free solid and liquid diets and postoperative pain scores at harvest site following the administration of inferior-alveolar nerve-block plus buccal-nerve block (IANB + BNB) versus placebo. We hypothesize that the intervention could decrease pain and aid in early food intake.

Background: This video article describes the use of bone-anchored prostheses for patients with transtibial amputations, most often resulting from trauma, infection, or dysvascular disease. Large studies have shown that about half of all patients with a socket-suspended artificial limb experience limited mobility and limited prosthesis use because of socket-related problems. These problems occur at the socket-residual limb interface as a result of a painful and unstable connection, leading to an asymmetrical gait and subsequent pelvic and back pain.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the outcomes of a polyaxial locking plate utilizing locking-cap fixation for treatment of patients with displaced olecranon fractures.
Methods: A retrospective review was performed for all consecutive patients at two institutions with displaced olecranon fractures treated with a polyaxial locking plate. Patients were required to have at least 1-year follow up.
Objectives: More than 20% of patients experience chronic lateral ligamentous instability of the ankle (CLLIOTA) following the appropriate management of an ankle sprain. The modified Broström-Gould (MBG) procedure has become the standard treatment for the anatomic repair of symptomatic CLLIOTA.
Methods: This retrospective, single-group study included all patients with CLLIOTA who underwent surgery using the MBG technique in Shahid Kamyab Hospital, Mashhad, Iran, between July 2015 and August 2020.
