In this column, Biggs updates the state of the science of Orem's self-care model and attendant theories, focusing primarily on research completed between 1999 and 2007. Orem's model of nursing as a compensation for the patient's lack of self-care capabilities was used as a frame of reference for an analysis of the behaviours of patients and nurses during morning care.
