Objective: Little is known about cognitive differences between patients showing neglect and those without neglect in their acute stroke stage. The aim of this study was to investigate how the patients with neglect (N+) differ from those without neglect (N-) in general cognitive function assessed by the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE).
Methods: Patients consisted of 98 consecutive patients with acute right hemisphere stroke. The patients underwent neglect test battery followed by MMSE in the same day.
Results: The frequency of cognitive deficits in N+ group was higher than that of N- group (74.1% vs. 35.0%). A regression analysis, after controlling for lesion volume, age, and education, showed that neglect was a significant predictor of low MMSE score. Among MMSE subdomains, the severity of neglect was related to poor performances on episodic memory (orientation and 3-word recall), working memory/calculation (serial 7s), and constructional praxis (interlocking pentagons).
Conclusions: These results suggest that hemispatial neglect is associated with several forms of cognitive deficits in patients with acute right hemisphere stroke.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring during electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is commonly done using a 2-channel EEG in order to capture activity from both brain hemispheres, though many institutions may instead opt to utilize a 1-channel EEG, often for reasons of convenience. We present a novel case of asymmetric termination of EEG seizure activity during an acute course of right unilateral ECT, prompting a full neurological workup to investigate potential underlying structural or physiological causative factors. This case assists in informing the necessity of bilateral hemispheric EEG monitoring as well as highlights the importance of searching for undiagnosed or latent neurological dysfunction in certain clinical situations arising during ECT.

Glucose transporter type 1 deficiency syndrome (GLUT1-DS) is an uncommon condition represented by an infantile-onset disorder, frequently arising from heterozygous mutations in the gene. Individuals with GLUT1-DS may present with early-onset seizures (typically manifesting before 4 years of age), developmental delay, and complex movement disorders. In fewer cases, stroke-like events or hemiplegic migraine-like symptoms are also reported, defined by unilateral paresis affecting 1 side of the body and/or one-half of the face, occasionally accompanied by speech impairment.

Background: Apraxia is a motor-cognitive disorder that primary sensorimotor deficits cannot solely explain. Previous research in stroke patients has focused on damage to the fronto-parietal praxis networks in the left hemisphere (LH) as the cause of apraxic deficits. In contrast, the potential role of the (left) primary motor cortex (M1) has largely been neglected.

Objective: The optimal timing of bypass surgery for patients with moyamoya disease (MMD) or moyamoya syndrome (MMS) following an acute stroke episode remains unclear, mainly owing to the risk of postoperative complications. In this study, we aim to validate the safety and efficacy of early intervention using multiple burr hole (MBH) and erythropoietin (EPO) therapy, thereby refining the management strategy for patients with acute stroke episode of MMD or MMS.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from 70 patients with MMD or MMS who underwent MBH and EPO therapy.
