The growth hormone-insulin-like growth factor-I (GH-IGF-I) axis plays a key role in intra-uterine growth and development. This review will describe the consequences of genetic defects in various components of the GH-IGF-I axis on intra-uterine growth and development. Animal knockout experiments have provided evidence for the GH-independent secretion of IGF-I and its effect in utero. Reports of patients with a deletion or mutation of the IGF-I and IGF1R genes have provided insight into the role of intra-uterine IGF-I in the human. Homozygous defects of the IGF-I gene have dramatic effects on intra-uterine growth and development, whereas heterozygous defects of the IGF1R gene have a more variable clinical presentation. The phenotype in relation to the genotype of the different disorders will be reviewed in this chapter.

Pregnancy complications associated with thrombophilia represent significant risks for maternal and fetal health, leading to adverse outcomes such as pre-eclampsia, recurrent pregnancy loss, and intra-uterine growth restriction (IUGR). They are caused by disruptions in key physiological processes, including the coagulation cascade, trophoblast invasion, angiogenesis, and immune control. Recent advancements in epigenetics have revealed that non-coding RNAs, especially microRNAs (miRNAs), long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), and extracellular vesicles (EVs) carrying these RNAs, play crucial roles in the regulation of these biological processes.

Background: Due to the high prevalence of COVID-19 and the prevention and control of adverse fetal and neonatal outcomes in pregnant women, including vertical transmission, this study was performed to describe the fetal and neonatal outcomes of pregnancy with a spectrum of COVID-19 disease during pregnancy in Iran.
Materials And Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we analyzed the medical records of 258 pregnant women admitted to the Forghani Hospital, Qom, Iran, from 18 February 2020, to May 10, 2021. PCR-RT or respiratory compromise in the presence of marked radiographic changes of COVID-19 in the lungs, or both COVID-19 disease confirmed COVID-19 disease.

Hyperreactio luteinalis (HL) and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome during pregnancy are both benign conditions where the ovaries are enlarged with presence of multiple thin-walled cysts. The differential diagnosis is ovarian malignancy. Hyperandrogenism with resultant maternal virilisation could be seen in some cases of HL as well as in androgen secreting tumours.
