Introduction: In this study, we tested the hypothesis that fixed functional appliance treatment in a group of Class II Division 1 patients with mandibular retrusion changes the condyle position in the glenoid fossa.

Methods: Transverse computed tomography images were taken of the temporomandibular joint region in 60 children with Class II Division 1 malocclusion. Thirty randomly selected patients were treated with a fixed functional orthodontic appliance (Forsus nitinol flat-spring, 3M Unitek Corp, Monrovia, Calif) for 7 months; another 30 patients without treatment were used as controls. Computed tomography images taken at the beginning and end of fixed functional appliance treatment were used for estimating the condyle-glenoid fossa relationship, including the volumes of condyle, glenoid fossa, and anterior and posterior joint spaces.

Results: Although the volumes of the condyle and glenoid fossa increased more in the study group than in the control group, the differences were not statistically significant. However, statistically significant differences were found between the groups in the volumes of the anterior and posterior joint spaces (P < 0.05).

Conclusions: When the volumes of the anterior and posterior joint spaces changed, the condyle was more posteriorly positioned in the glenoid fossa in the study group than in the control group.

This paper presents a novel approach to modeling and controlling a solar photovoltaic conversion system(SPCS) that operates under real-time weather conditions. The primary contribution is the introduction of an uncertain model, which has not been published before, simulating the SPCS's actual functioning. The proposed robust control strategy involves two stages: first, modifying the standard Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm to generate an optimal reference voltage using real-time measurements of temperature, solar irradiance, and wind speed.

Previous estimates of deep soil inorganic nitrogen (N) reservoirs have been mainly limited to desert soils, however, recent evidence suggests that deep soil pools are far more ubiquitous across biomes and therefore may be important for global N budgets. Here, we used observations from 280 deep soil profiles (2-205 m) across a wide array of ecosystem and land cover types to seek insight into the full geospatial variation of deep soil nitrate. Using a random forest machine learning approach we estimate a total deep soil nitrate pool of 15.

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of modified single patellar tunnel medial patella femoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction in the treatment of recurrent patellar dislocation.

Methods: Between January 2023 and June 2023, a total of 61 patients with recurrent patellar dislocation who underwent MPFL reconstruction with autologous semitendinosus were enrolled and divided into 2 groups using random number table method. In the patellar anchor group, 31 patients were treated with MPFL reconstruction with double medial patellar anchors, and 30 patients in the patellar tunnel group were treated with MPFL reconstruction with single patellar tunnel.

Pesticide contamination in wastewater poses a significant environmental challenge, driven by extensive agricultural use. This study evaluates the removal of chlorpyrifos (CPS) using sugarcane bagasse-based biochar alginate beads in a continuous fixed-bed adsorption column, achieving a remarkable 95-98% removal efficiency. Compared to conventional adsorbents like activated carbon, which typically show CPS adsorption capacities ranging from 50-70 mg g⁻ under similar conditions, the biochar alginate beads demonstrate better performance with a sorption capacity of 91.

The complex pollution and nutrient-poor characteristics of surface waters result in the limited ability of conventional reactors to remove pollutants. In this study, a novel modified ceramsite material, modified with trivalent iron (Fe(III)) and fulvic acid (FA) to form ceramsite@Fe(III)@FA (HC), was used for the first time as a biocarrier to immobilize strain Cupriavidus sp. W12, constructing a biofilter to enhance nitrate (NO-N) removal in micro-polluted water.
