Valvular heart disease (VHD) poses a significant threat to human health, and the transcatheter heart valve replacement (THVR) is the best treatment for severe VHD. Currently, the glutaraldehyde cross-linked commercial bioprosthetic heart valves (BHVs) remain the first choice for THVR. However, the cross-linking by glutaraldehyde exhibits several drawbacks, including calcification, inflammatory reactions, and difficult endothelialization, which limits the longevity and applicability of BHVs.

The necessity for the development of effective adsorbents to capture endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) from environmental and food samples arises from the potential health hazards that the EDCs may impose on human beings. Hence, a novel sulfonic group based hyper cross-linked polymer (HQSA-PLE-HCP) was synthesized and explored in solid phase extraction for the enrichment of some EDCs. The HQSA-PLE-HCP demonstrated an excellent adsorption capability for some EDCs (bisphenol F, bisphenol A, bishydroxyphenylbutane and p-tert-butylphenol).

Electrical stimulation (ES) of skin wounds can promote cell proliferation, protein synthesis, inflammatory response, and improve neurological function. In this study, the dynamical cross-linked conductive hydrogels have been developed by integration of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) into porcine acellular dermal matrix (PADM) and oxidized hyaluronic acid (OHA) using dopamine-Fe complex (DA@Fe) as cross-linking agent. The as-obtained conductive composite hydrogels have the characteristics of rapid gelation, excellent deformation ability, high water absorption, and suitable degradation rate.

Objective: To evaluate the potential protective effect of metformin against osteoarthritis development in rats.
Methods: The experimental study was conducted at the Iraqi Centre for Cancer Research and Medical Genetics, Mustansiriyah University, Baghdad, Iraq, from December 2021 to February 2022, and comprised male Sprague- Dawley mice who were divided into 5 equal groups: negative control group, osteoarthritis group subjected to monoiodoacetate induction, positive control group treated with celecoxib 30mg/kg, metformin 100mg/kg group, and metformin 200mg/kg group. Body mass index, inflammatory biomarkers, and serum C-terminal cross-linked telopeptide of type II collagen levels were noted for all the animals.
