Background/purpose: Fetal hilar cyst is primarily diagnosed as two diseases after birth, cystic biliary atresia (CBA) and choledochal cyst (CC). The aim of our study was to explore more reliable indicators in early differential diagnosis of these cysts.
Methods: We recruited a total of 50 cases with a prenatal diagnosis of hepatic cyst at three centers, and patients were divided into a CBA group (n = 16) and CC group (n = 34) according to postnatal intraoperative diagnosis.

This report presents a unique case involving two rare anatomical variations: double cystic arteries, along with a superficial branch originating from the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) - a previously unreported combination with significant clinical and surgical implications. Unlike earlier studies, this research provides detailed anatomical and embryological insights supported by high-quality imaging and illustrations to guide surgeons in recognizing and managing this novel variation.

Case Description: The patient in this case study is an 81-year-old man who presented with intermittent rigors. Following radiological and clinical assessments, a pyogenic liver abscess, with evidence of systemic metastatic infection, was diagnosed.

Introduction: Cystic echinococcosis is a widely endemic helminthic disease caused by infection with metacestodes (larval stage) of the Echinococcus granulosus tapeworm, which is transmitted by dogs and found on every continent except Antarctica. We sought to review the life cycle, epidemiology, symptoms, diagnostic methods, and treatment of Echinococcus granulosus of the liver.
Methods: A comprehensive review was conducted using Medline/PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, and the Web of Science accessed between 1990 and 2024.

Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a neglected tropical parasitic disease linked with significant social and economic burdens worldwide. The scientific community has minimal information on echinococcosis in Romanian people, and hospital medical records are the only sources that may be used to investigate its status. A 7-year retrospective clinical study on pediatric patients with CE from Southeast Romania was performed, and 39 children and adolescents were included, aged 2-15 years old.
