Hexagonal RMnO(3) is known as one of the candidates for multiferroic materials. We have focused on YbMnO(3), which has ferroelectricity along the c axis below 1000 K and antiferromagnetic ordering below 80 K. We have reported that magnetic, field-induced ferromagnetism in YbMnO(3) epitaxial thin films. In this study, we investigate the substitutional effect of the nonmagnetic element, Al, for Mn ions with triangular spin ordering on the ferroelectric and magnetic properties of YbMnO(3).

Background: The Diffusive Gradients in Thin Films (DGT) technique has become the most widely used passive sampling method for inorganic compounds. This widespread adoption can be partly attributed to the development of new binding phases that facilitate the sampling of numerous analytes. In contrast, to date, the DGT sampler for inorganic compounds has not seen any significant design improvements.

This paper is devoted to the investigation of the plasmonic effect of metal nanoparticles (NPs) formed on the surface of the YAG: Bi, Ce, Yb phosphors in a temperature range between 4 and 300 K. Combination of a thin conversion layer with silver plasmonic nanostructures leads to increase of sensitizer absorption and emission efficiency. Enhancement of Bi luminescence in YAG epitaxial films with Ag NPs was observed upon cooling the samples below 200 K.

Excess of trace elements (TE) significantly alters the performances of anaerobic digestors (AD). Due to interactions with organic matter in particular, only a small fraction of TE can effectively interact with the biomass. However, assessing the bioavailable fraction of TE remains an issue.

Microwave welding with SiCNW/PMMA nanocomposite thin films: Enhanced joint strength and performance.

Most previously reported susceptors for microwave welding are in powder form. In this study, a thin-film susceptor was employed due to its uniform heating rate and ease of handling. Silicon carbide nanowhisker (SiCNW) were incorporated into a poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrix to create a nanocomposite thin film, which served as the susceptor.

Zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have consistently faced challenges related to the instability of the zinc anode. Uncontrolled dendrite growth, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), and byproduct accumulation on the zinc anode severely affect the cycling life of ZIBs. Herein, inorganic-organic hybrid thin films of titanicones (Ti-based hydroquinone, TiHQ) were fabricated by molecular layer deposition (MLD) technology to modify the zinc metal anode.
