Deformation of aerogel strongly modifies the orientation of the order parameter of superfluid (3)He confined in aerogel. We used a radial squeezing of aerogel to keep the orbital angular momentum of the (3)He Cooper pairs in the plane perpendicular to the magnetic field. We did not find strong evidence for a polar phase, with a nodal line along the equator of the Fermi surface, predicted to occur at large radial squeezing. Instead we observed (3)He-A with a clear experimental evidence of the destruction of the long-range order by random anisotropy-the Larkin-Imry-Ma effect. In (3)He-B we observed and identified new modes of NMR, which are impossible to obtain in bulk (3)He-B. One of these modes is characterized by a repulsive interaction between magnons, which is suitable for the magnon Bose-Einstein condensation.

The bonding and spectroscopic properties of LaX and AcX (X = O and F) diatomic molecules were studied by high-level ab initio CCSD(T) and SO-CASPT2 electronic structure calculations. Bond dissociation energies (BDEs) were calculated at the Feller-Peterson-Dixon (FPD) level. Potential energy curves and spectroscopic constants for the lowest-lying spin-orbit Ω states were obtained at the SO-CASPT2/aQ-DK level.

The local environment of the active site, such as the confinement of hydronium ions within zeolite pores, significantly influences catalytic turnover, similar to enzyme functionality. This study explores these effects in the hydrolysis of guaiacols─lignin-derived compounds─over zeolites in water. In addition to the interesting catechol products, this reaction is advantageous for study due to its bimolecular hydrolysis pathway, which involves a single energy barrier and no intermediates, simplifying kinetic studies and result interpretation.

Objective: Prediction of mortality in intensive care unit (ICU) patients typically relies on black box models (that are unacceptable for use in hospitals) or hand-tuned interpretable models (that might lead to the loss in performance). We aim to bridge the gap between these 2 categories by building on modern interpretable machine learning (ML) techniques to design interpretable mortality risk scores that are as accurate as black boxes.
Material And Methods: We developed a new algorithm, GroupFasterRisk, which has several important benefits: it uses both hard and soft direct sparsity regularization, it incorporates group sparsity to allow more cohesive models, it allows for monotonicity constraint to include domain knowledge, and it produces many equally good models, which allows domain experts to choose among them.

In order to improve the accuracy of camera colorimetric characterization, a multi-input parameter optimization method was proposed in this paper. The input parameters of the traditional camera characterization method were generally RGB values; in the proposed method, the luminance parameter L was introduced in addition to RGB values, and the four-input parameters of RGBL were used as input parameters for the conversion model. In the experiment, 549 colors were uniformly selected from the Munsell Book of Color (Matte Edition), and the RGBL values and corresponding CIEXYZ values of the selected colors were measured by a spectroradiometer and three cameras, including an imaging luminance meter, respectively.

A fused-silica three-port grating under TE-polarized normal incidence is designed and manufactured with improved diffraction efficiency (DE) and bandwidth. A physical explanation of the grating diffraction is provided using the simplified mode method (SMM), and parameters of the grating structure were optimized using rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA). For a given set of optimized parameters, a transmitted three-port grating with an area of 170 ×170 was fabricated by scanning beam interference lithography (SBIL), and diffraction properties were investigated.
