Aortic valve calcification results from degenerative processes associated with several pathologies. These processes are influenced by age, chronic inflammation, and high concentrations of phosphate ions in the plasma, which contribute to induce mineralization in the aortic valve and deterioration of cardiovascular health. Environmental factors, such as wood smoke that emits harmful and carcinogenic pollutants, carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrogen oxide (NO), as well as other reactive compounds may also be implicated.

Aims: The aim of this study is the evaluation of an Azomethine derivative, BCS2, for its antioxidant and anti-tumor activities against mammary carcinoma through the Nrf2- Keap1-HO-1 pathway.

Background: The global prevalence of breast cancer is rising at an alarming rate. The facilitation of abnormal cell proliferation in mammary carcinoma occurs due to the disruption of signaling pathways that balance pro- and antioxidant status, thereby producing oxidative stress that disrupts genomic stability.

Using Poly(amidoamine) PAMAM-βCD Dendrimer for Controlled and Prolonged Delivery of Doxorubicin as Alternative System for Cancer Treatment.

Doxorubicin (Dox) is an anticancer drug used in the treatment of a wide range of solid tumors; however, Dox causes systemic toxicity and irreversible cardiotoxicity. The design of a new nanosystem that allows for the control of Dox loading and delivery results is a powerful tool to control Dox release only in cancer cells. For this reason, supramolecular self-assembly was performed between a poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimer decorated with four β-cyclodextrin (βCD) units (PAMAM-βCD) and an adamantane-hydrazone-doxorubicin (Ad-h-Dox) prodrug.

The increasing concern over microbial resistance to conventional antimicrobial agents used in food preservation has led to growing interest in plant-derived antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) as alternative solutions. In this study, the antimicrobial mechanisms of chia seed-derived peptides YACLKVK, KLKKNL, KLLKKYL, and KKLLKI were investigated against Staphylococcus aureus (SA) and Escherichia coli (EC). Fluorometric assays and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) demonstrated that the peptides disrupt bacterial membranes, with propidium iodide (PI) uptake reaching 72.

In subsurface water, humic acid (HA) can react with active chlorine to form carcinogenic compounds, posing ecological issues and health risks. This study aims to create sludge activated carbon (SAC), combine it with Fe, and activate peroxosulfate (PMS) to remove HA from water. To verify the successful modification of SAC, the physicochemical properties were characterized using various methods such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).
