We studied changes in antioxidant protection during ageing and senescence in chloroplasts of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L., cv. Wisconsin) with introduced SAG(12) promoter fused with ipt gene for cytokinin synthesis (transgenic plants with increased levels of cytokinins, SAG) or without it (control). Old leaves of SAG plants as well as their chloroplasts maintained higher physiological parameters compared to controls; accordingly, we concluded that their ageing was diverted due to increased cytokinin content. The chloroplast antioxidant protection did not decrease as well. Although antioxidant protection usually decreased in whole leaves of senescing control plants, ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR) activity, which maintained the high redox state of ascorbate, increased in chloroplasts of old control leaves.

The study aimed to elucidate the underlying pharmacological mechanism of the traditional Chinese medicine Pue in ameliorating myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI), a critical clinical challenge exacerbated by reperfusion therapy. In vivo MIRI and in vitro anoxia/reoxygenation (A/R) models were constructed. The results demonstrated that Pue pretreatment effectively alleviated MIRI, as manifested by diminishing the levels of serum CK-MB and LDH, mitigating the extent of myocardial infarction and enhancing cardiac functionality.

Low molecular weight fucoidan (LMWF) has been proved to be more potent than its prototype, many degradation methods have been used to prepare LMWF. This study is conducted to further explore the biological activities of LMWF prepared by ultrasound based on anticoagulation, antioxidation, and inhibition of urate induced pyroptosis and reabsorption transporters overexpression in human renal tubular epithelial cells. Data revealed that ultrasound successfully degraded fucoidan to be LMWF, the product treated for no more than 2.

Background: Hederagenin (HG), derived from ivy seeds, is known to offer protection against Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the specific molecular pathways through which it counters ferroptosis-induced neurotoxicity are not fully elucidated. This investigation seeks to delineate the processes by which HG mitigates neurotoxic effects in HT22 cells subjected to glutamate (Glu)-induced ferroptosis.

Inflammation, driven by various stimuli such as pathogens, cellular damage, or vascular injury, plays a central role in numerous acute and chronic conditions. Current treatments are being re-evaluated, prompting interest in naturally occurring compounds like kaempferol, a flavonoid prevalent in fruits and vegetables, for their anti-inflammatory properties. This study explores the therapeutic potential of kaempferol, focusing on its ability to modulate pro-inflammatory cytokines and its broader effects on inflammatory signaling pathways.
