In this study new compositions of polyphosphate coacervates were obtained with the ions Ni (2+) and Co (2+). Samples of the glassy systems were prepared with proportions P/M (+2) varying between 0.5 and 10. The qualitative and quantitative description of the first coordination shells of the transition metal were obtained through extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (EXAFS) analysis, performed at the Ni (2+) and Co (2+) K-edges. An analysis of the symmetric stretching vibrations of terminal P-O t and bridging P-O b groups performed through Raman spectroscopy revealed the different phases of the coacervation process in terms of bond strengths and corroborates the EXAFS results. The results obtained permitted a detailed structural description of these materials as well as the role played by the metallic ions on the coacervation process.

The Possible Crystallization Process in the Origin of Bacteria, Archaea, Viruses, and Mobile Elements.

We propose a hypothesis for the simultaneous emergence of bacteria, archaea, viruses, and mobile elements by sequential and concrete biochemical pathways. The emergence process can be considered analogous to crystallization, where genetic and biochemical systems stabilize as organisms evolve from their common ancestor, the LUCA, which was a non-free-living pool of single operon type genomes including double-stranded (ds) DNA at an ancient submarine alkaline vent. Each dsDNA operon was transcribed by different systems in σ, TFIIB, or TBP genomes.

The Drosophila intrinsically disordered protein Ultrabithorax (Ubx) undergoes a series of phase transitions, beginning with noncovalent interactions between apparently randomly organized monomers, and evolving over time to form increasingly ordered coacervates. This assembly process ends when specific dityrosine covalent bonds lock the monomers in place, forming macroscale materials. Inspired by this hierarchical, multistep assembly process, we analyzed the impact of protein concentration, assembly time, and subphase composition on the early, noncovalent stages of Ubx assembly, which are extremely sensitive to their environment.

The beneficial properties of probiotics have always been a point of interest. Probiotics play a major role in maintaining the health of Gastrointestinal Tract (GIT), a healthy digestive system is responsible for modulating all other functions of the body. The effectiveness of probiotics can be enhanced by formulating them with prebiotics the formulation thus formed is referred to as synbiotics.
