Uniform seed germination is crucial for consistent seedling emergence and efficient seedling production. In this study, we identified a seed-expressed protein in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), lateral organ boundaries domain 40 (SlLBD40), that regulates germination speed. CRISPR/Cas9-generated SlLBD40 knockout mutants exhibited faster germination due to enhanced seed imbibition, independent of the seed coat.

The vacuole is an important site for RNA degradation. Autophagy delivers RNA to the vacuole, where the vacuolar T2 RNase Ribonuclease 2 (RNS2) plays a major role in RNA catabolism. The presumed products of RNS2 activity are 3'-nucleoside monophosphates (3'-NMPs).

Polycystic kidney diseases (PKD) are genetic disorders which disrupt kidney architecture and function. Autosomal recessive PKD (ARPKD) is a rare form of PKD, caused by mutations in PKHD1, and clinically more severe than the more common autosomal dominant PKD (ADPKD). Prior studies have implicated Hedgehog (Hh) signaling in ADPKD, with increased levels of Hh components in experimental ADPKD and reduced cystogenesis following pharmacological Hh inhibition.

The production of complex multimeric secretory immunoglobulins (SIgA) in Nicotiana benthamiana leaves is challenging, with significant reductions in complete protein assembly and consequently yield, being the most important difficulties. Expanding the physical dimensions of the ER to mimic professional antibody-secreting cells can help to increase yields and promote protein folding and assembly. Here, we expanded the ER in N.

High temperature (HT) stress causes male sterility, leading to reduced upland cotton yield. Previously, we identified a key gene, Casein Kinase I (GhCKI), that negatively regulates male fertility in upland cotton under HT. However, conventional genetic manipulations of GhCKI would result in male sterility, hindering its utilization in breeding programs.
