Aim: The aim of the present study was to compare the accuracy of working endodontic length determination by Dentaport ZX and Ray Pex 4 under clinical conditions.

Material And Methods: Clinical comparative evaluation of the accuracy of two electronic apex locators, Dentaport ZX and Ray-Pex 4, was carried out in 80 single-rooted teeth with vital pulp tissue planned for extraction as part of the dental treatment and after patient consent had been obtained. The normal procedure was followed, which included anesthesia, a standard endodontic access cavity, pulp removal and irrigation of the root canal with 5.25% NaOCl. The working length was estimated with Dentaport ZX for half of the selected teeth and with Ray-Pex 4 for the other half. K-files #15 were cemented at the measured working length and the teeth were extracted. The apical foramen was examined with a stereomicroscope under x15 magnification. The micrometric system of the microscope allowed precise measurement of distances.

Results: The comparison of the estimated working length with the actual length revealed that Dentaport ZX localized the apical foramen in 95% of the cases and the Ray Pex 4 in 92.5% with a clinically acceptable accuracy of +/- 0.5 mm. Dentaport ZX detected the foramen in 97.5% and Ray Pex 4 in 95% of the cases with an accuracy of +/- 1 mm. There was no statistically significant difference between the accuracy of the two electronic apex locators in locating the apical foramen (p < 0.05).

Peroxisomal protein import has been identified as a valid target in trypanosomiases, an important health threat in Central and South America. The importomer is built of multiple peroxins (Pex) and structural characterization of these proteins facilitates rational inhibitor development. We report crystal structures of the Trypanosoma brucei and T.

Background: Pulmonary exacerbations (PExs) are clinically important in people with cystic fibrosis (CF). Multiple definitions have been used for PEx, and this scoping review aimed to identify the different definitions reported in the literature and to ascertain which signs and symptoms are commonly used to define them.

Methods: A search was performed using Embase, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Scopus and CINAHL.

BACKGROUND Computer-aided design (CAD) has been used in the Nuss procedure to determine the bar length and shape. Despite computer aid, the shape and design remain quite intuitive. We tested a new algorithm to determine the optimal bar shape.

Article Synopsis
  • Accurate positioning of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) is essential for effective treatment and reducing risks of complications.
  • This study analyzed data from 278 patients to assess the relationship between amplitude ratios from intravascular and external electrocardiograms (ivECG and exECG) and the catheter tip location as measured on chest X-rays.
  • Findings revealed that certain amplitude ratios were significantly higher or lower in optimal tip positions compared to malpositioned or suboptimally placed catheters, suggesting these ratios could aid in confirming proper catheter placement.

Peroxisomes are eukaryotic organelles that sequester critical oxidative reactions and process the resulting reactive oxygen species into less toxic byproducts. Peroxisome function and formation are coordinated by peroxins (PEX proteins) that guide peroxisome biogenesis and division and shuttle proteins into the lumen and membrane of the organelle. Despite the importance of peroxins in plant metabolism and development, no plant peroxin structures have been reported.
