Objective: The Vigileo/FloTrac system (software version 1.01; Edwards Lifesciences, Irvine, CA) determines cardiac output, without calibration, by analysis of the arterial pulse wave. To assess the accuracy of the Vigileo/FloTrac system, it was compared with the pulmonary artery catheter bolus thermodilution method as the current standard method. The study design was prospective and observer blinded.
Setting: A single university hospital.
Participants: Thirty elective coronary artery bypass graft surgery patients. No special interventions were done to the participants.
Measurements And Main Results: After approval by the ethics committee and with written informed consent, synchronized measurements using both methods were made at 7 predefined time points, intraoperatively and postoperatively, producing 192 data pairs for evaluation. The statistical evaluation was performed by using the Bland-Altman method of analysis. In addition, a +/-20% and +/-30% deviation from the pulmonary artery catheter were evaluated (20% criteria and 30% criteria). In total, 46% of measurements did not fulfill the 20% criteria; 26% were outside the 30% limits. The Bland-Altman analysis for all time points showed that 95% of all differences between both methods were within a range between -2.2 and +3.1 L/min. Regression analysis revealed low correlation values at all time points.
Conclusion: The described deviation from the standard must be regarded according to the user's needs. Considering the 30% limits of agreement, the Vigileo system (version 1.01) seems sufficiently accurate; applying the 20% criteria, it is not.

Background: Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF-1α) and its related vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) may play a significant role in atherosclerosis and their targeting is a strategic approach that may affect multiple pathways influencing disease progression. This study aimed to perform a systematic review to reveal current evidence on the role of HIF-1α and VEGF immunophenotypes with other prognostic markers as potential biomarkers of atherosclerosis prognosis and treatment efficacy.
Methods: We performed a systematic review of the current literature to explore the role of HIF-1α and VEGF protein expression along with the relation to the prognosis and therapeutic strategies of atherosclerosis.

Background: Patient self-care is established as improving outcomes, yet acute care in hospitals is provided such that patients tend to be passive recipients of care. Little is known about the extent and type of patient participation in treatment care tasks in acute hospital settings.
Aims: To map and synthesise available literature on self-performance of care tasks in acute hospital settings.

Background: Real-world data regarding patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR exon 20 insertion (ex20ins) mutations receiving mobocertinib are limited. This study describes these patients' characteristics and outcomes.
Methods: A chart review was conducted across three countries (Canada, France, and Hong Kong), abstracting data from eligible patients (NCT05207423).

Background/objectives: With the improvement of living standards, alcoholic liver disease caused by long-term drinking has been a common multiple disease. Probiotic interventions may help mitigate liver damage caused by alcohol intake, but the mechanisms need more investigation.
Methods: This study involved 70 long-term alcohol drinkers (18-65 years old, alcohol consumption ≥20 g/day, lasting for more than one year) who were randomly assigned to either the BC99 group or the placebo group.

Background: The optimal application of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) in treating gestational diabetes remains uncertain. MNT involves individualised nutrition assessment and counselling, which is labour-intensive and is not the sole type of intervention offered by clinical dietitians.
Objective: To determine whether pregnancy outcomes differed for individuals with gestational diabetes who were offered MNT on a risk-prioritised (RP) versus universal basis.
