Published: February 2008

Malignant transformation of duplication cyst is a rare condition. The authors report the original case of a degenerated gastric duplication cyst in a 67-year-old patient. The histologic examination revealed a gastric duplication cyst infiltrated with both adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Local carcinomatosis was found at laparotomy. The patient died six months after complete macroscopic resection of the lesion, with metastatic disease.

Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) infections following intravesical BCG immunotherapy: a systematic review protocol.

Syst Rev

January 2025

Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, Duke University, 148 Hanes House, 315 Trent Dr, Durham, NC, 27710, USA.

Background: Although intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) immunotherapy usually exhibits a favorable safety profile, it can lead to the development of BCG infections, both localized and disseminated. Understanding of BCG infections following intravesical BCG immunotherapy is limited because of the lack of consensus definitions of BCG infections and limited post-instillation follow-up. We aim to perform a systematic review of the literature of BCG infections following intravesical BCG immunotherapy to elucidate the epidemiology, risk factors, and outcomes of BCG infections.

Background: Chlorination is a widespread method for drinking water disinfection that has the drawback of introducing potentially carcinogenic chemical by-products to drinking water.

Objective: We systematically evaluated the epidemiologic evidence of exposure to trihalomethane (THM) disinfection by-products and risk of cancer.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of epidemiologic studies that assessed the association of exposure to residential concentrations of THMs with risk of cancer in adults.

Insights into NEK2 inhibitors as antitumor agents: From mechanisms to potential therapeutics.

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Targeted Tracer Research and Development Laboratory, Institute of Respiratory Healthand, Department of Frontiers Science Center for Disease-related Molecular Network, Core Facilities, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610041, Sichuan, China. Electronic address:

NEK2, a serine/threonine protein kinase, is integral to mitotic events such as centrosome duplication and separation, microtubule stabilization, spindle assembly checkpoint, and kinetochore attachment. However, NEK2 overexpression leads to centrosome amplification and chromosomal instability, which are significantly associated with various malignancies, including liver, breast, and non-small cell lung cancer. This overexpression could facilitate tumor development and confer resistance to therapy by promoting aberrant cell division and centrosome amplification.

Gastric duplication is a rare congenital disorder of the alimentary tract, and anemia is a rare presenting clinical sign of gastric duplication cysts (GDC). There are two reported cases of autoimmune hemolytic anemia as a paraneoplastic presentation of gastric duplication in the adult population, but there have not yet been any reported cases of this in childhood. We report the first case in the pediatric patient population: the case of GDC presenting as autoimmune hemolytic anemia in a 15-month-old girl.

To enhance patient outcomes in pediatric cancer, a better understanding of the medical and biological risk variables is required. With the growing amount of data accessible to research in pediatric cancer, machine learning (ML) is a form of algorithmic inference from sophisticated statistical techniques. In addition to highlighting developments and prospects in the field, the objective of this systematic study was to methodically describe the state of ML in pediatric oncology.
