Objectives/hypothesis: To demonstrate the feasibility of optical coherence tomography in microstructural imaging of the porcine cochlea.

Study Design: Ex vivo, porcine model.

Methods: Optical coherence tomographic images of the porcine cochlea were obtained by thinning the bone from the basal turn of the cochlea leaving the endosteum intact. The images were compared with the corresponding histological sections.

Results: In the areas of thinned bone, images were obtained of the stria vascularis, Reissner's membrane, basilar membrane, tectorial membrane, scala media, scala tympani, and scala vestibuli. The bone was too thick for adequate light penetration in the areas where it was not thinned. Good histological correlation was obtained.

Conclusions: Cochlear and vestibular microanatomic structures of the pig cochlea were clearly identified with histological confirmation, suggesting the potential application of this noninvasive imaging modality for in vivo imaging of the human cochlea.

Purpose: To report a case of bilateral choroidal osteoma successfully treated with subscleral sclerectomy for secondary serous retinal detachment (SRD).

Observations: A 52-year-old Japanese woman first diagnosed with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease and treated with steroids for 9 years was referred to our clinic. SRD in both eyes recurred frequently and was uncontrolled with adalimumab subcutaneous injections and oral cyclosporine, in addition to steroids.

As an effective approach to overcome the electronic bottlenecks of conventional electrical radars, microwave photonic radars have demonstrated significant superiority in their perception and recognition capabilities. However, trade-offs exist among the reconfigurability, signal time-bandwidth product (TBWP), linearity, and phase coherence of current photonic radars, which ultimately weaken the overall performance. We demonstrate a widely spaced, stabilized, and self-referenced opto-electronic oscillator driven electro-optic modulator based optical frequency comb. Using an ultra-stable Fabry-Perot etalon as a stable reference, we simultaneously stabilize a CW laser and generate a low noise and stable RF oscillation used to drive an electro-optic comb. In such a manner, the Fabry-Perot etalon pins both the carrier-envelope-offset frequency ( ) and the repetition rate of the comb in place ( ), eliminating the need for an external RF oscillator.
