A novel open-framework aluminoborate, [CH3NH2(CH2)3NH ]-[AlB5O10] (QD-2), has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by IR, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and powder and single-crystal X-ray diffractions. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group P2(1)2(1)2(1) (No. 19), a = 9.4352(4) A, b = 10.2972(2) A, c = 13.7511(5) A, V = 1336.0(8) A3, and Z = 4. Its structure consists of AlO4 tetrahedra and B5O10 clusters, which are interconnected to form the first example of a three-dimensional aluminoborate with intersecting helical channels.

The large variety of structures of Zintl phases are generally well understood since their anionic substructures follow bonding rules according to the valence concept. But there are also exceptions, which make the semiconductors especially interesting in terms of structure-property relationships. Although several Na-Sn-Pnictides with a variety of structural motives are known, up to this point no ternary compound in the Na-Sn-Bi system has been described.

Antibiotic residues have become a significant challenge in food safety, threatening both ecosystem integrity and human health. To combat this problem, we developed an innovative photo-powered, self-powered aptasensor that employs a novel carbon-doped three-dimensional graphitic carbon nitride (3D-CN) combined with a metal-organic framework composed of N-doped copper(I) oxide-carbon (CuO@C) skeletons. The 3D-CN serves as the photoanode, offering stable photocurrent production due to its three-dimensional open framework structure.

Electrical stimulation of peripheral nerves has been used in various pathological contexts for rehabilitation purposes or to alleviate the symptoms of neuropathologies, thus improving the overall quality of life of patients. However, the development of novel therapeutic strategies is still a challenging issue requiring extensive in vivo experimental campaigns and technical development. To facilitate the design of new stimulation strategies, we provide a fully open source and self-contained software framework for the in silico evaluation of peripheral nerve electrical stimulation.

Article Synopsis
  • The solvothermal reaction of CuSO·5HO with a chiral -pempH ligand produces a metastable intermediate compound (1) in a 6:1 molar ratio.
  • Compound 1 features a unique 3D open-framework structure with copper cluster nodes and sulfate linkages, which can then transform into a more stable layered compound (2).
  • The study also examined the photothermal effects of both compounds, indicating potential applications in thermal energy management.

The elimination of uranium from radioactive wastewater is crucial for the safe management and operation of environmental remediation. Here, we present a layered vanadate with high acid/base stability, [MeNH]VO, as an excellent ion exchanger capturing uranyl from highly complex aqueous solutions. The material possesses an indirect band gap, ferromagnetic characteristic and a flower-like morphology comprising parallel nanosheets.
