BACKGROUND Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) encephalitis is a commonly reported form of encephalitis that clinically manifests as skin lesions, fever, headache, and neuropsychiatric symptoms. We present a case of a patient with VZV encephalitis complicated by cerebral hemorrhagic transformation, characterized by high levels of inflammation and protein in the cerebrospinal fluid. The aim is to highlight the risk of hemorrhagic transformation associated with VZV encephalitis.

A time series study of the association between extreme temperature and ozone on varicella incidence.

This study aimed to discuss the effects of extreme temperatures and ozone on the incidence of varicella in Shijiazhuang City from 2014 to 2022, which provides new ideas for preventing public health events. METHODS We collected varicella cases in Shijiazhuang, China, from 2014 to 2022 and evaluated the relationship between temperature extremes and ozone on varicella incidence by building distributional lag nonlinear models. The analysis was stratified by age and sex, with 19,188 varicella cases reported.

This study evaluates the clinical impact of comprehensive nursing care on senior patients suffering from postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), a chronic neuropathic pain condition resulting from the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus. A total of 102 elderly patients diagnosed with PHN and treated at our hospital were divided into two groups: the control group, which received conventional nursing care, and the intervention group, which received comprehensive nursing care. Comparative analyses were conducted on pain levels, sleep quality, symptoms of depression and anxiety before and after the intervention.
