In younger children it is advantageous to perform cataract surgery with posterior capsulectomy and anterior vitrectomy to prevent secondary cataract formation. In many cases after surgery lens epithelial cells grow on the posterior lens capsule, and on the anterior surface of the vitreous. Authors report a case of secondary cataract in 6 years old girl post pars plana lensectomy and anterior vitrectomy in both eyes. They performed secondary posterior chamber IOL implantation and examined the fibrous tissue resection (secondary cataract), from the left eye - histological and immunohistochemical tests. This examination with H&E staining revealed the presence of fibroblast-like cells. The lens epithelial cells probably underwent epithelial-mesenchymal transformation and in some cases can create secondary cataract.

Purpose: To quantify the effect of cataract surgery on cornea shape.

Importance: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common, chronic, cardiac arrythmia in older US adults. It is not known whether AF is independently associated with increased risk of retinal stroke (central retinal artery occlusion), a subtype of ischemic stroke that causes severely disabling visual loss in most cases and is a harbinger of further vascular events.

Objective: To determine whether there is an association between AF and retinal stroke.

This study aims to analyze the prevalence and severity of posterior capsule opacification (PCO) and glistening in a new hydrophobic biaspheric monofocal intraocular lens (IOLs) 24 months after implantation. By means of a ambispective, observational, case-control design, a total of 297 eyes from 200 cataract surgery patients were included in the study (118 females and 82 males; mean age: 72.31 ± 9.

Background: To evaluate the biosafety, reduction in anterior capsule opacification, and fluctuation in intraocular pressure (IOP) of a new phakic refractive lens (PRL) with a sinusoidal drainage groove design.

Methods: This self-controlled experiment was performed on eight eyes of four rabbits. Each rabbit was implanted with a sinusoidal PRL (PRL-S5) in the right eye and a conventional posterior chamber PRL (PC-PRL) in the left eye.

To compare the postoperative outcomes after combined phacovitrectomy for epiretinal membrane and cataract (combined group) vs standalone phacoemulsification (control group). A systematic literature search of Ovid MEDLINE, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library was performed. The primary outcomes were the refractive predictive error and mean absolute error expressed as the spherical equivalent.
