Background: The objective was to evaluate the effects of rosiglitazone on iliac arteries of hypercholesterolemic rabbits undergoing balloon catheter injury in the contralateral iliac arteries.

Methods: White male rabbits were fed a hypercholesterolemic diet for 6 weeks and divided into two groups as follows: rosiglitazone group, 14 rabbits treated with rosiglitazone (3 mg/Kg body weight/day) during 6 weeks; and control group, 18 rabbits without rosiglitazone treatment. All animals underwent balloon catheter injury of the right iliac artery on the fourteenth day of the experiment.

Results: There was no significant difference in intima/media layer area ratio between the control group and the rosiglitazone group. Rosiglitazone did not reduce the probability of lesions types I, II, or III (72.73% vs. 92.31%; p = 0.30) and types IV or V (27.27% vs. 7.69%; p = 0.30). There were no differences in the extent of collagen type I and III deposition or in the percentage of animals with macrophages in the intima layer. The percentage of rabbits with smooth muscle cells in the intima layer was higher in rosiglitazone group (p = 0.011).

Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that rosiglitazone given for 6 weeks did not prevent atherogenesis at a vessel distant from the injury site.

Aims/hypothesis: Insulin resistance and compensatory hyperinsulinaemia are core features leading to beta cell failure in youth-onset type 2 diabetes. Insulin clearance (IC) is also a key regulator of insulin concentrations, but few data exist on IC in youth-onset type 2 diabetes. In a secondary analysis of our Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY) randomised clinical trial, we investigated potential sex-, race-, ethnicity- and treatment-related differences in IC in youth-onset type 2 diabetes and aimed to identify metabolic phenotypes associated with IC at baseline and in response to metformin, metformin plus a lifestyle intervention, and metformin plus rosiglitazone.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate how moxibustion can alleviate inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by influencing ferroptosis and lipid metabolism.
  • Researchers used 48 rats divided into four groups (normal, model, moxibustion, and moxibustion with an ACSL4 inhibitor) to assess moxibustion's effects over 15 days using various biochemical and histological techniques.
  • Results showed that moxibustion significantly improved antioxidant levels and reduced inflammatory markers in the rats, indicating its potential as a treatment for RA-related synovitis.

Obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus are global public health issues. Although males show higher obesity and insulin resistance prevalence, current treatments often neglect sex-specific differences. White adipose tissue (WAT) is crucial in preventing lipotoxicity and inflammation and has become a key therapeutic target.

Lactating oocytes consume a lot of energy during maturation, a large part of which comes from lipid metabolism. PPARγ is a key regulator of lipid metabolism. In this study, rosiglitazone (RSG), an activator of PPARγ, was added to a mature medium to investigate its effects on the levels of spindle and the chromosome arrangement, lipid deposition, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and glutathione (GSH) levels, oocyte secretion factors, apoptosis and lipid metabolism-related gene expression, and subsequent embryonic development during the maturation of sheep oocytes.

This study aims to explore the improvement effect of Sijunzi Decoction on intestinal barrier in diabetic mice. A type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) model was established in C57BL/6J mice by feeding them with high-sugar and high-fat diet combined with streptozotocin(STZ). The T2DM mice were randomly divided into a control group, a T2DM group, a donepezil(DON) group, a rosiglitazone(RGZ) group, and Sijunzi Decoction groups(7.
