This report describes the nodular lesions found on a young, male European goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) which were found to be poxvirus lesions in conjunction with a Staphylococcus aureus infection. Treatment consisted of surgical removal of the two lesions and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid. The diagnosis of a poxvirus infection was suspected by histology and confirmed with transmission electron microscopy. To our knowledge the goshawk has been reported as being susceptible to avipoxvirus infections, but no clinical reports have been published concerning this species.

A captive, 1-year-old, male Eurasian goshawk () weighing 0.85 kg and owned by a falconer was presented with a history of acute onset of weakness, dyspnea, diarrhea, and regurgitation of a fresh-thawed pigeon contaminated with acetamiprid, an insecticide used in the raptor enclosure. The raptor had eaten the contaminated pigeon approximately 10-12 hours earlier.

Birds of prey raised in captivity have direct contact with the environment and are fed raw meat various animals, which increases the risk of infections caused by parasites, including endoparasites. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of endoparasites in predatory birds of the orders Accipitriformes and Falconiformes that are used in falconry in Poland. Fresh feces were sampled from 52 birds, including 16 saker falcons (Falco cherrug), 8 lanner falcons (Falco biarmicus), 7 peregrine falcons (Falco peregrinus), 8 Harris's hawks (Parabuteo unicinctus), 7 Eurasian goshawks (Accipiter gentilis), 3 common kestrels (Falco tinnunculus), 1 Eurasian sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus), 1 red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis), and 1 common buzzard (Buteo buteo).

Individuals differ demographically, and to capture these differences, models of population dynamics are usually structured by age and stage, rarely by sex. An effect of sex on population dynamics is expected if the dynamics of males and females differ, requiring an unequal sex ratio at birth and/or sex-specific survival probabilities.

Accipitriformes are diverse in their prey preferences and use their grasping feet for hunting. Little is known about the architectural design of muscles related to grasping among species of different sizes, diets, and foraging behaviors. In the present study, we report quantitative data and analysis of the pelvic musculature of the Japanese sparrowhawk (Accipiter gularis), Eurasian sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus), common buzzard (Buteo buteo), northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis), and cinereous vulture (Aegypius monachus).

The pollution due to plastic and other anthropogenic particles has steadily increased over the last few decades, presenting a significant threat to the environment and organisms, including avian species. This research aimed to investigate the occurrence of anthropogenic pollutants in the digestive and respiratory systems of four birds of prey: Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo), Black Kite (Milvus migrans), Eurasian Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus), and Northern Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis). The results revealed widespread contamination in all species with microplastics (MPs) and cellulosic anthropogenic fibers (AFs), with an average of 7.
