Nickel catalysis has experienced a renaissance over the past two decades, driven by its ability to access diverse oxidation states (0 to +4) and unique reactivity. This review consolidates the advancements in nickel chemistry, providing an overview of ligands that stabilize specific nickel oxidation states. The stability, reactivity, and catalytic applications of Ni sources, including generation from air- and moisture-stable Ni precursors, are discussed, along with the roles of Ni and Ni intermediates in catalytic cycles.

Amino-quinolines are potential candidates that may provide some insight into the current chemotherapeutic research due to their demonstrated anti-cancer activity. This led us to synthesize and explore a new amino-azo-quinoline ligand H2L 1 and its square planar nickel(II) complexes [Ni(HL)(OAc)], 2 and [Ni(HL)Cl], 3 and the structures were determined by SCXRD. Theoretical investigation of redox orbitals of the complexes discloses that the reduction process is due to ligand reduction whereas both metal and ligand are contributing towards oxidation.

Seawater splitting is increasingly recognized as a promising technique for hydrogen production, while the lack of good electrocatalysts and detrimental chlorine chemistry may hinder further development of this technology. Here, the interfacial engineering of manganese dioxide nanoparticles decorated on NiFe layered double hydroxide supported on nickel foam (MnO@NiFe LDH/NF) is reported, which works as a robust catalyst for alkaline seawater oxidation. Density functional theory calculations and experiment findings reveal that MnO@NiFe LDH/NF can selectively enrich OH and repel Cl in oxygen evolution reaction (OER).

Contaminants are a major cause of seafood export rejections in foreign markets and have significantly impacted consumer health. This investigation addresses the issues of metal contamination and biochemical markers in Litopenaeus vannamei from East Midnapore, West Bengal, India. The analyzed metals included vanadium (V), chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), molybdenum (Mo), silver (Ag), gallium (Ga), germanium (Ge), arsenic (As), selenium (Se), strontium (Sr), tin (Sn), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), and lead (Pb), using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS).

Cobalt-nickel metal-organic framework/activated carbon (MOF/AC) composites with tunable flower-like architectures were synthesized via a straightforward hydrothermal method, utilizing activated carbon as a structural and functional modifier. This modification increased the surface area from 20.3 m/g to 164.
