To propagate their genetic material, flowering plants rely on the production of large amounts of pollen grains that are capable of germinating on a compatible stigma. Pollen germination and pollen tube growth are thought to be extremely energy-demanding processes. This raises the question of whether mitochondria from pollen grains are specifically tuned to support this developmental process.

An unsuccessful attempt to directly construct alkaloid iheyamine A from a fascaplysin framework resulted in the discovery of a novel synthetic approach to alkylated δ,γ-biscarboline derivatives. With the easy-to-operate reaction conditions of this protocol, 18 alkylated biscarbolines have been prepared in moderate to good yields. An unexpected domino transformation was proposed to involve a pyridinium ring-opening/aza-electrocyclization/oxidative deformylation sequence.

Purifying methane from natural gas using adsorbents not only requires the adsorbents to possess excellent separation performance but also to overcome additional daunting challenges such as humidity interference and durability requirements for sustainable use. Herein, porous organic crystals of a new macrocycle () with superhydrophobic and self-healing features are prepared and employed for the purification of methane (>99.99% purity) from ternary methane/ethane/propane mixtures under 97% relative humidity.

The engagement of predictive mechanisms during language comprehension can facilitate processing and modulate neural oscillatory activity. These modulations include alpha-band activity decreases prior to expected words, reflecting anticipatory preparation, and frontal theta-band activity following unexpected words, reflecting engagement of cognitive control. It remains unknown how these oscillatory dynamics are impacted by aging.
