We report on preparation process and optical characterization of a nanocomposite material obtained dispersing colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs), namely CdS and CdSe@ZnS core-shell system in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). Such method allows a large flexibility on nanocrystal materials and on the choice of the polymer characteristics. Nanocomposite thin films were extensively investigated by means optical and morphological techniques. The effects on NC composition, concentration, size, and surface chemistry on the spectroscopical and structural behaviour of the nanocomposite properties were studied. The NC size dependent optical properties of the nanocomposites are mainly accounted by the NC composition and size, while the morphology of the films is explained on the base of the NC surface characteristics and their concentration in the nanocomposites.

Objective: The aim of this single-center case series is to demonstrate that an ultra-low dose (ULD) can be routinely achieved in the hybrid operating room in standard endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) for infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm by adjusting the manufacturer's predefined imaging parameters, hardware configurations and user protocols (including benchmarking).

Methods: The hybrid operating room manufacturer predefined EVAR software setup of the dose exposure control software (OPTIQ, Siemens Healthineers, Forchheim, Germany) at our university medical center was screened for possible improvements regarding radiation dose application. Tests on a water-equivalent as well as polymethyl methacrylate phantom model to assess the impact of technical settings were performed, including comparison of settings for exposure control software, different magnification, collimation configurations and detector distance.

Cement-augmented pedicle screw instrumentation is a widely accepted method for managing osteoporotic fractures, but it carries inherent risks, particularly related to cement leakage and embolism. This study aimed to analyze a clinical case of complications following cement fixation and provide a detailed review of relevant literature. A 70-year-old patient underwent transpedicular screw instrumentation from L2-L4 with polymethyl methacrylate augmentation, which resulted in cement leakage into the spinal canal and subsequent pulmonary embolism.

Bubble-microplastic (MP) interaction is a significant process that changes the routes of MP circulation in marine environment and thereby determines the risk of MPs, which could be strongly influenced by natural organic matter (NOM) in oceans. However, the quantitative interaction mechanisms between bubbles and MPs under the effect of NOM remain elusive. Herein, bubble-MP interactions in simulated seawater were quantified at nanoscale based on atomic force microscope coupled with the Stokes-Reynold-Young-Laplace model.

Aim To evaluate and compare the fracture toughness and flexural strength of interim fixed partial dentures reinforced with carbon, glass, and Kevlar nanofibers. Materials and methods This study explored the effect of reinforcing poly methyl methacrylate with carbon, glass, and Kevlar fibers on its fracture toughness and flexural strength. A total of 120 samples were prepared, divided into two groups of 60 samples each, with one group tested for fracture toughness and the other for flexural strength.

H5N1 flu is a highly virulent and variable subtype of influenza with significant epidemic and pandemic potential. In this study, we introduce a novel, maskless, and rapid manufacturing process for a microfluidic chip integrated with electrodes for the quantitative detection of H5N1-DNA sequences. This detection leverages a catalytic redox-recycling signal via a novel Fe₃O₄@TMU-8 nanocomposite, which facilitates the turnover of the oxidation state of [Ru(NH₃)₆]³⁺, thereby amplifying the electrochemical signal output.
