Neonatal severe hyperparathyroidism with inactivating calcium sensing receptor (CaSR) mutation (p.I81K).

J Pediatr Endocrinol Metab

January 2025

Department of Pediatric Endocrinology, Antalya Training and Research Hospital, University of Health Sciences, Antalya, Türkiye.

Objectives: Neonatal severe hyperparathyroidism (NSHPT) is a rare condition characterized by inactivating mutations in the calcium-sensing receptor () gene, leading to significant hypercalcemia and related complications.

Case Presentation: We present a case of a six-day-old male infant with weakness, jaundice, and hypotonia, later diagnosed with NSHPT due to a known homozygous mutation (c.242T>A; p.

Tertiary hyperparathyroidism is characterized by hypercalcemia resulting from autonomous parathyroid hormone production and usually occurs after a prolonged period of secondary hyperparathyroidism. This condition can be a complication of X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH), a rare genetic disease characterized by renal phosphate loss and consequent hypophosphatemia. Parathyroidectomy is considered the first-line therapy but surgical intervention can be complicated by hungry bone syndrome.

Introduction Bariatric surgery is increasingly employed to address the global burden of morbid obesity, with Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) representing the predominant procedure. However, some patients, particularly those with extreme obesity (BMI >50 kg/m²), may experience unsatisfactory weight-related outcomes following RYGB. While biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD-DS) offers superior weight reduction for this population, its complexity and associated risks limit its widespread use.

Division of Visceral Surgery, Department of General Surgery, Medical University of Vienna, Waehringer Guertel 18-20, 1090, Vienna, Austria.

Background: Metabolic/bariatric surgery (MBS) remains the most effective and long-lasting treatment for obesity and its complications. Apart from any surgical complications, the often less obvious but possibly severe side-effects of nutritional deficiencies have become of interest in recent years. OAGB is known to come with the need for thorough supplementation.

Au-Functionalized Metal-Organic Framework Coordinated Nanotherapeutics for Substrate Self-Supplied Parallel Catalytic and Calcium-Overload-Mediated Therapy of Cancer.

Collaborative Innovation Center of Tumor Marker Detection Technology, Equipment and Diagnosis Therapy Integration in Universities of Shandong, Shandong Province Key Laboratory of Detection Technology for Tumor Makers, College of Medicine, Linyi University, Linyi 276005, China.

The multiple enzymatic properties of the Au-modified metal-organic framework (Au-MOFs) have made it a functional catalytic system for antitumor treatment. However, in the face of insufficient catalytic substrates in tumor tissue, it is still impossible to achieve efficient treatment of tumors. Herein, Au-MOFs loaded with hyaluronic acid (HA)-modified calcium peroxide nanoparticles (CaO NPs) were used to construct a nanozyme (Au-MOF/CaO/HA) for substrate self-supplied and parallel catalytic/calcium-overload-mediated therapy of cancer.
