The reaction of LH3 with Ni(ClO4)(2).6H 2O and lanthanide salts in a 2:2:1 ratio in the presence of triethylamine leads to the formation of the trinuclear complexes [L2Ni2Ln][ClO4] (Ln=La (2), Ce (3), Pr (4), Nd (5), Sm (6), Eu (7), Gd (8), Tb (9), Dy (10), Ho (11) and Er (12) and L: (S)P[N(Me)NCH-C6H3-2-O-3-OMe]3). The cationic portion of these complexes consists of three metal ions that are arranged in a linear manner. The two terminal nickel(II) ions are coordinated by imino and phenolate oxygen atoms (3N, 3O), whereas the central lanthanide ion is bound to the phenolate and methoxy oxygen atoms (12O). The Ni-Ni separations in these complexes range from 6.84 to 6.48 A. The Ni-Ni, Ni-Ln and Ln-O phenolate bond distances in 2-12 show a gradual reduction proceeding from 2 to 12 in accordance with lanthanide contraction. Whereas all of the compounds (2-12) are paramagnetic systems, 8 displays a remarkable ST=(11)/2 ground state induced by an intramolecular Ni. . .Gd ferromagnetic interaction, and 10 is a new mixed metal 3d/4f single-molecule magnet generated by the high-spin ground state of the complex and the magnetic anisotropy brought by the dysprosium(III) metal ion.

Symmetry-breaking spin-state transitions in two of three isostructural salts of MnIII spin-crossover cations, [MnIII(3-OMe-5-NO2-sal2323)]+, with heavy anions are reported. The ReO4-  salt undergoes two-step spin crossover which is coupled with a re-entrant symmetry-breaking structural phase transition between a high temperature phase (S = 2, C2/c), an intermediate ordered phase (S = 1/S = 2, P21/c), and a low temperature phase (S = 1, C2/c). The AsF6-  complex undergoes an abrupt transition between a high temperature phase (S = 2, C2/c) and a low temperature ordered phase (S = 1/S = 2, P-1).

Background: Scedosporium apiospermum is a multidrug-resistant filamentous fungus that causes localized and disseminated diseases. Our group has previously described that metalbased complexes containing copper(II) or silver(I) ions complexed with 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6- dione (phendione) inhibited the viability of S. apiospermum conidial cells.

One very unique feature of oxidorhenium(v) complexes is their dual catalytic activity in both reduction of stable oxyanions like perchlorate ClO and nitrate NO as well as epoxidation of olefins. In our ongoing research efforts, we were interested to study how an electron-withdrawing ligand would affect both these catalytic reactions. Hence, we synthesized the novel bidentate dimethyloxazoline-dichlorophenol ligand HL1 and synthesized oxidorhenium(v) complex [ReOCl(L1)] (1).

In this study, a tetradentate Schiff-base ligand (HL), synthesized by the condensation of ethylenediamine with 2-hydroxy-3-methoxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde, was reacted with either manganese salts or manganese salts in the presence of various pseudohalides in methanol. This reaction resulted in the formation of five mononuclear Mn complexes: [Mn(L)(HO)](NO)·1/2HO·1/2CHOH (), [Mn(L)(HO)](ClO)·HO (), [Mn(L)(N)(HO)]·1/3HO (), [Mn(L)(NCS)(HO)] (), and [Mn(L)(HO)](dca) () (where dca is dicyanamide ion). X-ray crystallography revealed that the Mn centers adopt a hexa-coordinate pseudo-octahedral geometry, where the equatorial plane is constructed with phenoxo oxygen and imine nitrogen atoms from the Schiff base ligand, while the axial positions are occupied by water molecules or a combination of water and pseudohalides.

Four new Np(V) perchlorate complexes of the composition [NpO(HO)]ClO (orthorhombic) (), [(NpO)(ClO)(HO)]ClO·HO (), [(NpO)(UO)(HO)](ClO) (), and [(NpO)Cl(HO)]ClO·2HO () have been synthesized and structurally characterized. The structure of previously known monoclinic modification of NpOClO·4HO () has been determined at 100 K. The coordination environment of Np and U atoms in compounds - is pentagonal bipyramids.
