Data of a transversal research on 36 suspected tuberculosis (tb) inpatients of St. Luigi Hospital are reported. Serum antimycobacterial antibodies Class IgG to A60 were measured by means of ELISA. Final diagnosis was tb in 19 subjects, while 9 had a tb history over different years. Sensitivity was 78.94% and specificity 75%. According to with other recent reports, our results are poorly discriminating. However, the test, if valued with other clinical data, can contribute to the ascertainment of tb.

The pathogenesis of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension may be multifactorial and requires further studies. We explored alterations in pulmonary artery endothelial cells under the hypoxic and elevated interleukin-17 conditions that are commonly present in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. We measured the serum interleukin-17 levels in 10 chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension patients and 10 healthy control persons.

Although disturbances in the gut microbiome have been implicated in multiple sclerosis (MS), little is known about the changes and interactions between the gut microbiome and blood metabolome, and how these changes affect disease-modifying therapy (DMT) in preventing the progression of MS. In this study, the structure and composition of the gut microbiota were evaluated using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and an untargeted metabolomics approach was used to compare the serum metabolite profiles from patients with relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) and healthy controls (HCs). Results indicated that RRMS was characterized by phase-dependent α-phylogenetic diversity and significant disturbances in serum glycerophospholipid metabolism.

Background: Diabetic nephropathy (DN), a common complication of type 2 diabetes (T2D), significantly contributes to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Despite conventional treatments aimed at slowing disease progression, there is a pressing need for novel therapies. This study evaluates the potential therapeutic impact of adipose tissue derived stromal vascular fraction (SVF) on early diabetic nephrotoxicity in a rat model.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine-metabolic disorder, and multiple factors contribute to its pathophysiology. The current study assessed a PCOS-like animal model induced by consuming a high-fat sugar (HFHS) diet and compared the treatment outcome of mitochondrial-targeted antioxidants versus heat therapy. Sixty rats were divided into the following study groups: three control groups (negative and positive for the treatments used), HFHS, hot tub therapy (HTT) treatment, and MitoQ10 treatment (500 µmol/L MitoQ10 in clean drinking water daily, from week fourteen till week twenty-two of the study).

Oxidative stress (OS) injury is pivotal in acute pancreatitis (AP) pathogenesis, contributing to inflammatory cascades. Irisin, a ubiquitous cytokine, exhibits antioxidant properties. However, the role of irisin in AP remains inconclusive.
