Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy is a cornerstone treatment for many cancers, but it can induce severe immunotoxicity, including acute interstitial nephritis (AIN). Currently, kidney biopsy is required to differentiate ICI-AIN from other causes of acute kidney injury (AKI). However, this invasive approach can lead to morbidity, delayed glucocorticoid treatment for patients with AIN, and unnecessarily prolonged suspension of ICI therapy in non-AIN patients.

Accurate urine sodium measurements at home using Point of Care Testing in patients with Short Bowel Syndrome.

Clin Nutr ESPEN

January 2025

Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Intestinal Failure Unit, Radboud University Medical Centre Nijmegen, Geert Grooteplein 10, 6500 HB, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Electronic address:

Background And Aims: Measurement of the urine sodium concentration (USC) is a simple procedure that in many patients adequately indicates their hydration status. This is of particular importance in patients suffering from short bowel syndrome (SBS), who may very rapidly dehydrate and are at risk for permanently compromising their kidney function. A point of care test (POCT) that allows reliable measurement of USC would enable these patients to effectively evaluate their sodium- and water balance in the at home setting, thereby avoiding hospital visits and delayed test results.

Safety Profile of SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination in Patients with Lupus Nephritis: A Retrospective Study.

J Clin Med

January 2025

Division of Nephrology, 2nd Department of Internal Medicine, Attikon University Hospital, School of Health Sciences, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, 12462 Athens, Greece.

Vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 has been vital in alleviating the spread of the recent pandemic. We aimed to estimate the frequency and type of adverse events related to SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in patients with lupus nephritis (LN), and assess its impact, if any, on the risk of subsequent reactivation of nephritis. This was a retrospective, multicenter study which included patients with biopsy-proven LN, who had received at least one vaccine dose.

Physicochemical properties and biological interaction of calcium silicate-based sealers - in vivo model.

Clin Oral Investig

January 2025

Department of Restorative Dentistry - Endodontics, Faculdade de Odontologia de Piracicaba, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Piracicaba, SP, Brazil.

Objectives: To investigate volumetric changes, in vivo biocompatibility, and systemic migration from eight commercial endodontic sealer materials in paste/paste, powder/liquid, and pre-mixed forms.

Materials And Methods: The sealers AH Plus Bioceramic, AH Plus Jet, BioRoot RCS, MTApex, Bio-C Sealer, Bio-C Sealer Ion+, EndoSequence BC Sealer and NeoSEALER Flo were studied. After characterisation by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometry (XRD), tubes were implanted in Wistar rats' alveolar bone and subcutaneous tissues.

Rationale And Objective: Globally, the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated a rapid introduction of virtual care delivery via telephone or videoconference. The rapid advancements in e-health technology facilitated options for virtual care, including asynchronous data transfer in virtual clinic models and patient-facing smartphone applications for communications and self-care. However, the clinical benefits of virtual consultation have not been consistently demonstrated in all facets of kidney care, and the adoption of this innovation alters workflows and health professionals' perceptions of care delivery.
