Ultrastructure of the basilar artery in rabbit.

Folia Morphol (Warsz)

Department of Anatomy, Academy of Medicine, Lublin.

Published: May 1993

Ultrastructure of the basilar artery has been examined in 14 animals aged 70 and 140 days. The structure is characteristic for the muscular type artery. During the most intensive physical growth of the animals between 70 and 140 days, at the time of sexual maturation, the number of laminae in the middle layer increases from 4 to 6 and collagenous, and elastic fibers increase as well.

Heterogeneity in macrophages along the cochlear spiral in mice: insights from SEM and functional analyses.

Front Cell Neurosci

August 2023

Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences, University at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, United States.

The susceptibility of sensory cells to pathological conditions differs between the apical and basal regions of the cochlea, and the cochlear immune system may contribute to this location-dependent variability. Our previous study found morphological differences in basilar membrane macrophages between the apical and basal regions of the cochlea. However, the details of this site-dependent difference and its underlying structural and biological basis are not fully understood.

Single-cell transcriptomic profiling of the mouse cochlea: An atlas for targeted therapies.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

Functional molecular characterization of the cochlea has mainly been driven by the deciphering of the genetic architecture of sensorineural deafness. As a result, the search for curative treatments, which are sorely lacking in the hearing field, has become a potentially achievable objective, particularly cochlear gene and cell therapies. To this end, a complete inventory of cochlear cell types, with an in-depth characterization of their gene expression profiles right up to their final differentiation, is indispensable.

Background: We attempt to discuss the function of self-made prescription compound Rhodiola rosea on the kidneys of rats with type 2 diabetic nephropathy (DN), through studying the effects of self-made rescription compound Rhodiola rosea on the ultrastructure of podocytes in rats with DN.

Methods: DN rat model was established by streptozotocin. The successfully modeled rats were divided into 4 groups, DN group, compound Rhodiola low-dose group, medium-dose group, and high-dose group.

Nicotine induced ototoxicity in rat cochlear organotypic cultures.

Transl Neurosci

January 2021

Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, The First Affiliated Hospital of USTC, Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, Anhui, 230001, People's Republic of China.

Epidemiological evidence has shown that smoking is associated with an increased risk of hearing loss. However, the underlying mechanisms regarding the impact of nicotine on the cochlea remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the cytotoxic effects of nicotine on cochlear cells using cultured cochlear basilar membranes.

January 2021

Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University, Ames, IA, USA.

Objective: Determine the immediate post-operative effects of MicroPulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (MP-TSCPC) in healthy equine eyes.

Animals Studied: Ten adult horses.

Methods: MP-TSCPC was performed on sedated horses in 12 eyes (4 groups) using the following parameters (power, duration, duty cycle): (1) 2000 mW, 180 seconds, 31.
