Evaluating low NO hydrogen engines designed for off-road and construction applications.

Environ Sci Process Impacts

January 2025

Wolfson Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratories, University of York, Heslington, York, YO10 5DD, UK.

Hydrogen internal combustion engines offer a near-term decarbonisation pathway for hard to electrify sectors such as non-road mobile machinery (NRMM). However, few hydrogen-specific engines have ever been developed with the twin-goals of maximising low carbon energy efficiency and delivering air quality co-benefits. We present analyses of dynamometer-derived nitrogen oxides (NO) tailpipe emissions from four variants of a ∼55 kW four-cylinder port fuelled injection spark ignition hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2ICE) suitable for a range of uses within the NRMM industry.

The expansion of LEAN and small batch manufacturing demands flexible automated workstations capable of switching between sorting various wastes over time. To address this challenge, our study is focused on assessing the ability of the Segment Anything Model (SAM) family of deep learning architectures to separate highly variable objects during robotic waste sorting. The proposed two-step procedure for generic versatile visual waste sorting is based on the SAM architectures (original SAM, FastSAM, MobileSAMv2, and EfficientSAM) for waste object extraction from raw images, and the use of classification architecture (MobileNetV2, VGG19, Dense-Net, Squeeze-Net, ResNet, and Inception-v3) for accurate waste sorting.

Effective documentation and coding in health care are crucial for patient care, safety, workflow improvement and accurate billing. This quality improvement study aimed to enhance History and Physical (H&P) note documentation and charge capture processes to integrate coding and billing aspects, capture authentic work, preserve the H&P's integrity and align H&P-related revenue with actual performance. A multidisciplinary team, including divisional leadership and specialists in documentation improvement, electronic health records, lean/six sigma methodology, a nocturnist and a senior-level physician coding auditor, initiated a quality improvement project.

Standardization of Subcutaneous Injection of Prefilled Anticoagulants Through Lean Six Sigma Management: A Before-After Study.

J Craniofac Surg

January 2025

Department of Neurosurgery, Beijing Hospital, National Center of Gerontology, Institute of Geriatric Medicine, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of the Lean Six Sigma management approach on the standardization of nurses' prefilled anticoagulant subcutaneous injection practices, with a focus on improving anticoagulation outcomes, reducing patient complications, and enhancing overall patient satisfaction.

Background: The lack of standards for prefilled anticoagulant injection has resulted in a high complication rate, decreased patient satisfaction, and diminished service quality. This study investigated the impact of the Lean Six Sigma management approach on the standardization of nurses' prefilled anticoagulant subcutaneous injection practices.

Blood flow restriction training (BFRT) has been previously studied as an alternative form of resistance training to gain lean mass and improve performance outcomes. However, in all exercise studies of BFRT, the proportion of female participants represents only 17-29% of all research participants. This highlights a strong underrepresentation of females and the need for more knowledge on the impact of BFRT and sex differences.
