Rehabilitation and reanimation of the paralyzed face remains a challenge. A variety of autografts and allografts have been used for static facial suspension. We report two cases of long-standing partial facial paralysis treated with 3C triple-convergence polypropylene thread. A 39-year-old woman with right-sided partial facial paralysis underwent an endoscopy-assisted facial suspension using the 3C threads and a 60-year-old woman with right-sided partial facial paralysis underwent a round face-lifting combined with endoscopic brow lift and placement of 3C triple-convergence polypropylene threads. Its use for partial facial paralysis has not been previously described. The 1-year follow-up shows effective preservation of the surgical result and patient satisfaction.

Geometry-Based Synchrosqueezing S-Transform with Shifted Instantaneous Frequency Estimator Applied to Gearbox Fault Diagnosis.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

Heime (Tianjin) Electrical Engineering Systems Co., Ltd., Tianjin 301700, China.

This paper introduces a novel geometry-based synchrosqueezing S-transform (GSSST) for advanced gearbox fault diagnosis, designed to enhance diagnostic precision in both planetary and parallel gearboxes. Traditional time-frequency analysis (TFA) methods, such as the Synchrosqueezing S-transform (SSST), often face challenges in accurately representing fault-related features when significant mode closely spaced components are present. The proposed GSSST method overcomes these limitations by implementing an intuitive geometric reassignment framework, which reassigns time-frequency (TF) coefficients to maximize energy concentration, thereby allowing fault components to be distinctly isolated even under challenging conditions.

Silicon carbide (SiC) has significant potential as a third-generation semiconductor material due to its exceptional thermal and electronic properties, yet its high hardness and brittleness make processing costly and complex. This study introduces ultraviolet laser ablation as a method for direct SiC material removal, investigating the effects of varying scanning speeds on surface composition, hardness, and ablation depth. The results indicate optimal processing speeds for the Si and C faces at 200 mm/s and 100 mm/s, respectively.

Background: Rapid sequence induction intubation (RSII) is commonly used in emergency surgeries for patients at high risk of aspiration. However, these patients are more susceptible to hypoxemia during the RSII process. High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy has emerged as a potential alternative to traditional face mask (FM) ventilation pre- and apneic oxygenation.

Artificial intelligence plays an indispensable role in improving productivity and promoting social development, and causal discovery is one of the extremely important research directions in this field. Acyclic directed graphs (DAGs) are the most commonly used tool in causal modeling because of their excellent interpretability and structural properties. However, in the face of insufficient data, the accuracy and efficiency of DAGs learning are greatly reduced, resulting in a false perception of causality.

The present article describes a step-by-step maximally digitalized workflow protocol with computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) in partial-arch edentulous patients rehabilitated with fixed dental prostheses and removable partial dentures (FDPs and RPDs). Facial digitalization, intraoral scans, and functional mandibular movement recordings were used to create a 4D virtual patient on commercially available CAD software. The fixed components including post-and-cores, both metal-ceramic with extra-coronal attachment and monolithic zirconia crowns, and the RPDs were manufactured by computer numerical controlled direct milling.
