The unit covers Variable Numbers of Tandem Repeats (VNTR) based paternity analysis as well as the newer methods relying on PCR to analyze sequence specific polymorphisms and microsatellite regions. The discussion of data analysis and probability calculations has been expanded to address a number of special circumstances, such as the lack of sample from an alleged father, motherless cases, and more.

Human-induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) technology has been applied in pathogenesis studies, drug screening, tissue engineering, and stem cell therapy, and patient-specific hiPSC-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) have shown promise in disease modeling, including diabetic cardiomyopathy. High glucose (HG) treatment induces lipotoxicity in hiPSC-CMs, as evidenced by changes in cell size, beating rate, calcium handling, and lipid accumulation. Empagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor, effectively mitigates the hypertrophic changes, abnormal calcium handling, and contractility impairment induced by HG.

A cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the seroprevalence and potential risk factors of camel brucellosis and to assess public health awareness of the disease in the selected kebele of Arero District, Borena Zone, Southern Ethiopia. A total of 313 blood samples were collected from selected camels using a systematic random sampling technique. The serum samples underwent initial screening for brucellosis using the rose Bengal plate test (RBPT), with further confirmation through the indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent Assay (i-ELISA).

Background: Every day throughout the world more than 4,000 infants and young children die because colostrum feeding was not initiated within an hour of birth as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO)/United Nations Children's Fund. Even though breastfeeding is common in Ethiopia, the widespread belief that colostrum feeding causes morbidity and mortality among neonates still exists.
Objective: To assess the colostrum feeding practice and It's associated factors among mothers who come for Post-natal care at Asella Referral and Teaching Hospital, Asella Town, Southeast Ethiopia from November 20, 2023, to January 25, 2024.

Background: Monitoring HIV infection estimates is critical to guide health interventions and assess their impact, especially in highly vulnerable groups to the infection such as African pregnant women. This study describes the trends of HIV infection over eleven years in women attending selected antenatal care (ANC) clinics from southern Mozambique.
Methods: We performed a secondary analysis of data registered at the ANC clinic of the Manhiça District Hospital and from the Ministry of Health's HIV National Program Registry between 2010 and 2021.
