Results of treatment of 124 pediatric patients with Hodgkin's disease with a follow-up period of not less than 5 years were analysed. The diagnostic workup included laparotomy. As a result, stage of disease was changed in 24 (28.5%) out of 84 operated patients. Treatment with CVPP combination chemotherapy (several cycles) and extended-field telegammatherapy yielded a five-year survival rate of 86.2% with 77.4% of patients being free from relapse. Splenectomy did not influence long-term results: five-year survival rates in operated and non-operated patients were 86.9 and 85%, respectively. No delayed toxicity associated with chemoradiation treatment was encountered.

Purpose: It is not known whether temporal changes in childhood cancer therapy have reduced risk of subsequent malignant neoplasms (SMNs) of the central nervous system (CNS), a frequently fatal late effect of cancer therapy.
Methods: Five-year survivors of primary childhood cancers diagnosed between 1970-1999 in the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study with a subsequent CNS SMN were identified. Cumulative incidence rates and standardized incidence ratios (SIR) were compared among survivors diagnosed between 1970-1979 (N = 6223), 1980-1989 (N = 9680), and 1990-1999 (N = 8999).

Gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) comprises a category of malignant or potentially malignant tumors that arise from gestational trophoblasts. Almost all cases of GTN experience a recurrence within the first year following treatment, although recurrences become rare after five years. Recurrent GTN tends to have a poor prognosis, primarily due to challenges in management, a high rate of relapse, and a low five-year survival rate.
