The authors studied the effect of various DDP applications (sodium salt of dimethyl-dioxopiperazine thiosulfonate) in a dose of 45 mg/kg w. administered 10 min before irradiation, on the survival of female mice C57 and (CBA x C57BL/F1 after a single whole-body exposure to a sublethal dose of gamma rays (LD50/5 = magnitude of 15.495 +/- 0.781 magnitude of Gy and LD50/30 = magnitude of 7.864 +/- 0.018 magnitude of Gy). The depth of DDP protection effect on the haemopoietic stem cells was studied using the method of endogenous spleen colonies (ESC) of haemopoietic tissue. DDP radioprotective effect was also demonstrated after s. c. and i. m. application of this substance 10 min before 6 Gy of gamma radiation; it was shown by a prolongation of the survival time of experimental animals and by an increase in the number of individuals surviving till the 30th day after irradiation. Higher ESC numbers in the animals with DDP protection demonstrate survival of higher number of the haemopoietic stem cells and indicate that DDP is the biological active substance and contributes to the repair of haematopoiesis damaged by radiation and to the survival of irradiated animals.

Background: Species that experience outbreaks and those that display density-dependent phase polymorphism demonstrate density-dependent prophylaxis (DDP) by increasing their immune investment in response to increasing densities. Despite this phenomenon, the mechanisms of DDP remain largely unexplored.
Results: Here, we showed that Spodoptera litura exhibited heightened cuticular melanization and enhanced cuticular immune responses when reared at higher population density.

Multi-drug resistance-associated protein 1 (MRP1) plays critical roles in the multi-drug resistance (MDR) of cancer cells, LncRNA HOTAIR is closely related to MDR in lung cancer, however, the effects of HOTAIR on MRP1 expression and MDR in lung cancer cells (A549/DDP) remain unknown. In this study, the effects of HOTAIR on MRP1 gene expression and MDR in A549/DDP cells were monitored. LncRNA HOTAIR was upregulated in A549/DDP cells, and overexpression of HOTAIR promoted MRP1 expression and MDR development.

Background: β-caryophyllene (BCP) is a naturally occurring bicyclic sesquiterpene extracted from various plants, and widely used as a medicinal agent for various diseases. During hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development, cancer cells generally exhibit increased cell proliferation due to mutations or aberrant expression of key regulatory genes. The current study determines the cytotoxic effects of BCP alone or in combination with doxorubicin (DOX) and cisplatin (DDP) on HCC cells, and elucidates the underlying mechanism of BCP to exert its anticancer activities.

In order to study the effect of the simplified formula of Jinfukang Oral Liquid(ALG-12) on renal tubular injury induced by cisplatin(DDP), 48 C57 mice were divided into control group, model group, DDP group, and DDP combined with low, medium, and high dose groups of ALG-12. The mice were administered for 16 days after the establishment of the subcutaneous Lewis lung cancer heterotopic transplant tumor model of mice. The pathological changes, serum creatinine(Scr), blood urea nitrogen(BUN), kidney injury molecule 1(Kim-1), neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin(NGAL), malondialdehyde(MDA), and total superoxide dismutase(T-SOD) in renal tissue and the degree of renal tubular cell apoptosis were analyzed to investigate the effect of ALG-12 on renal injury induced by DDP treatment on non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).
