A novel algorithm-based risk classification for vascular damage in men with erectile dysfunction.

J Sex Med

December 2024

Division of Experimental Oncology/Unit of Urology, URI; IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, 20132 Milan, Italy.

Background: Penile dynamic color doppler duplex ultrasound (CDDU) is a relevant tool in assessing men with suspected vasculogenic erectile dysfunction (V-ED).

Aim: To investigate (1) factors potentially associated with V-ED to define risk classes useful in predicting V-ED; (2) the response to phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5i); and (3) the onset of incident major cardiovascular (CV) events.

Methods: A cohort of men with ED and without known concomitant CVD was grouped into: patients undergoing CDDU (N.

Etiology, histology, and long-term outcome of bilateral testicular regression: a large Belgian series.

Hum Reprod Open

December 2023

Department of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Ghent University, Pediatric Endocrinology Service, Ghent University Hospital, Belgium, Ghent.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the long-term effects of bilateral testicular regression (BTR) in individuals, focusing on growth and development outcomes, particularly highlighting suboptimal penile growth often related to genetic factors.
  • - BTR, a rare condition with potential vascular and genetic origins, was analyzed in a cross-sectional study involving 35 participants recruited from eight pediatric endocrinology departments in Belgium over three years.
  • - Key findings revealed common maternal complications during pregnancy and identified specific genetic variants in some participants, while a centralized review of gonadal tissue contributed to understanding the condition's clinical implications.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to enhance the examination process for women with chronic skenitis by creating and testing a new retractor specifically for better visual inspection of the urethra and Skene glands.
  • The research involved 50 women ages 19 to 38, examining symptoms that had persisted for an average of 8.6 years, using both standard techniques and the newly developed instrument to evaluate effectiveness and safety.
  • Results showed the new urtheral speculum significantly reduced examination time by 148 seconds and increased the number of identified Skene gland ducts, demonstrating its potential for improved diagnostic efficiency.

The penis is a relatively uncommon organ for metastases. Secondary lesions often originate from the bladder, prostate, or rectosigmoid cancers. Only a few cases have described penile lesions secondary to lung cancers, mostly as a later complication.

Penile incarceration with a foreign body is a rare urological emergency necessitating prompt intervention. We present a 59-year-old patient who entrapped penis and right testicle with metal thread reducer for sexual arousal four days prior to admission to Emergency room. Ultrasound revealed significantly reduced Color Doppler signal in right testicle and completely absent signal in penile artery.
