Despite the apparent uniformity in cellular composition of the adult mammalian cerebellar cortex, it is actually highly compartmentalized into transverse zones, and within each zone the cortex is further subdivided into a reproducible array of parasagittal stripes. The most extensively studied compartmentation antigen is zebrin II/aldolase c, which is expressed by a subset of Purkinje cells forming parasagittal stripes. Gamma-aminobutyric acid B receptors (GABABRs) are G-protein-coupled receptors that mediate a slow, prolonged form of inhibition in many brain areas. This study examines the localization of GABABR2 in the mouse cerebellum by using whole mount and section immunohistochemistry. The data reveal that GABABR2 immunoreactivity is expressed strongly in the dendrites of a subset of Purkinje cells that form a reproducible array of transverse zones and parasagittal stripes. By using double immunostaining, the striped pattern of GABABR2 expression was shown to be identical to that revealed by anti-zebrin II and complementary to that of phospholipase Cbeta4. This finding supports previous functional studies showing that inhibitory neurotransmission is highly patterned in the cerebellar cortex.

The cortex and cerebellum are densely connected through reciprocal input/output projections that form segregated circuits. These circuits are shown to differentially connect anterior lobules of the cerebellum to sensorimotor regions, and lobules Crus I and II to prefrontal regions. This differential connectivity pattern leads to the hypothesis that individual differences in structure should be related, especially for connected regions.

Cerebellar functional and structural connectivity are likely related to motor function after stroke. Less is known about motor recovery, which is defined as a gain of function between two time points, and about the involvement of the cerebellum. Fifteen patients who were hospitalized between 2018 and 2020 for a first cerebral ischemic event with persistent upper limb deficits were assessed by resting-state functional MRI (rsfMRI) and clinical motor score measurements at 3, 9 and 15 weeks after stroke.

This study describes the congenital goiter in an alpaca (Vicugna pacos) fetus aborted in November 2021 with the clinical and pathological findings in the dam that was found dead on the farm three weeks after a miscarriage. The dam was a black coat alpaca bred in the Netherlands, imported in Italy in January 2021, and housed in a farm of central Italy for breeding purposes. Signalment and clinical data on dam and fetus were collected from the farmer and referring veterinarian.

Cytoreductive surgery and intraoperative, intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemoperfusion (hyperthermic intraperitoneal intraoperative chemotherapy) are commonly used for the management of peritoneal surface metastases. We describe a case of acute embolic infarcts in bilateral cerebellar lobes, cerebral peduncles, thalamus and left parietal lobe cortex in a postmenopausal woman in her 50s diagnosed with bilateral ovarian mucinous adenocarcinoma with peritoneal metastasis under general anaesthesia.
