Thermally Stimulated Depolarisation Currents (TSDC) measurements on D(-)-salicin have been carried out in the temperature region from -165 degrees C up to 150 degrees C. The slow molecular mobility was characterised in the crystal and in the glassy state. The value of the steepness index or fragility (T(g)-normalized temperature dependence of the relaxation time) was obtained by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) from the analysis of the scanning rate dependency of T(g). The existence of an unknown polymorph of salicin is also reported.

Sublethal tumor cells have an urgent need for energy, making it common for them to switch metabolic phenotypes between glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) for compensatory energy supply; thus, the synchronous interference of dual metabolic pathways for limiting energy level is essential in inhibiting sublethal tumor growth. Herein, a multifunctional nanoplatform of Co-MOF-loaded anethole trithione (ADT) and myristyl alcohol (MA), modified with GOx and hyaluronic acid (HA) was developed, namely, CAMGH. It could synchronously interfere with dual metabolic pathways including glycolysis and OXPHOS to restrict the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) supply, achieving the inhibition to sublethal tumors after microwave (MW) thermal therapy.

The growing interest in minimal and non-invasive therapies, especially in the field of cancer treatment, highlights a significant shift toward safer and more effective options. Ablative therapies are well-established tools in cancer treatment, with known effects including locoregional control, while their role as modulators of the systemic immune response against cancer is emerging. The HIFU developed with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guidance enables treatment precision, improves real-time procedural control, and ensures accurate outcome assessment.

Exploring the Biological Impact of β-TCP Surface Polarization on Osteoblast and Osteoclast Activity.

Department of Advanced Prosthodontics, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Institute of Science Tokyo, Yushima, Tokyo 1138549, Japan.

β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) is a widely utilized resorbable bone graft material, whose surface charge can be modified by electrical polarization. However, the specific effects of such a charge modification on osteoblast and osteoclast functions remain insufficiently studied. In this work, electrically polarized β-TCP with a high surface charge density was synthesized and evaluated in vitro in terms of its physicochemical properties and biological activity.

Herein, a water-soluble, ultrabright, near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent, mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs)-peptide bioconjugate is designed with dual targeting capabilities. Cancer cell surface overexpressed αβ integrin targeting two RGDS tetrapeptide residues is tethered at the macrocycle of MIMs-peptide bioconjugate via Cu(I)-catalyzed click chemistry on the Wang resin, and mitochondria targeting lipophilic cationic TPP functionality is conjugated at the axle dye. Living carcinoma cell selective active targeting, subsequently cell penetration, mitochondrial imaging, including the ultrastructure of cristae, and real-time tracking of malignant mitochondria by MIMs-peptide bioconjugate (RGDS)-Mito-MIMs-TPP are established by stimulated emission depletion (STED) super-resolved fluorescence microscopy.

January 2025

Programa de Pós-graduação em Ciências da Saúde: Infectologia e Medicina Tropical, Faculdade de Medicina, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine reference points for thermal perception in cutaneous lesions of leprosy, a disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae characterised by hypoesthesia in skin lesions due to nerve and Schwann cell infection. Early diagnosis is essential to control transmission and effectively treat the disease.

Methods: Quantitative thermal testing (QTT) has been proposed as a valuable tool for early detection of the disease, initiation of treatment, and monitoring of nerve damage.
