The bifunctional photocatalyst Pt/TiO2-xNx has been successfully prepared by wet impregnation. The properties of Pt/ TiO2-xNx have been investigated by diffuse reflectance spectra, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, a photoluminescence technique with terephthalic acid, and electric field induced surface photovoltage spectra. The photocatalytic activity of the sample was evaluated by the decomposition of volatile organic pollutants (VOCs) in a H2-O2 atmosphere under visible light irradiation. The results demonstrated that nitrogen-doped and platinum-modified TiO2 in a H2-O2 atmosphere could enormously increase the quantum efficiency of the photocatalytic system with excellent photocatalytic activity and high catalytic stability. The increased quantum efficiency can be explained by enhanced separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, higher interface electron transfer rate, and an increased number of surface hydroxyl radicals in the photocatalytic process. A mechanism was proposed to elucidate the degradation of VOCs over PtTiO(2-x)Nx in a H2-O2 atmosphere under visible light irradiation.

Low temperature is one of the major environmental stresses that limit crop growth and grain yield in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Drought priming at the vegetative stage could enhance wheat tolerance to later cold stress; however, the transgenerational effects of drought priming on wheat offspring's cold stress tolerance remains unclear.

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) of noble metals is an attractive technology potentially applied in nanoelectronics and catalysis. Unlike the combustion-like mechanism shown by other noble metal ALD processes, the main palladium (Pd) ALD process using palladium(ii)hexafluoroacetylacetonate [Pd(hfac)2] as precursor is based on true reducing surface chemistry. In this work, a thorough investigation of plasma-enhanced Pd ALD is carried out by employing this precursor with different plasmas (H2*, NH3*, O2*) and plasma sequences (H2* + O2*, O2* + H2*) as co-reactants at varying temperatures, providing insights in the co-reactant and temperature dependence of the Pd growth per cycle (GPC).

SrCeO₃ and SrCeSmO were synthesized using a high-temperature solid-state reaction method using Sm₂O₃, SrCO₃, CeO₂ as precursors, then the SrCeSmO-NaCl-KCl composite electrolyte was fabricated by compounding SrCeSmO with NaCl-KCl and sintering it at a lower temperature (750 °C) than that of a single SrCeO₃ material (1540 °C). The phase and microstructure of the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The conductivities of the samples were measured in dry nitrogen atmosphere using electrochemical analyzer.

Atypical progeroid syndrome (APS), including atypical Werner syndrome (AWS), is a disorder of premature ageing caused by mutation of the lamin A gene, the same causal gene involved in Hutchinson-Gilford syndrome (HGS). We previously reported the first Japanese case of APS/AWS with a LMNA mutation (p.D300N).

Light-driven generation of H2 O2 only from water and molecular oxygen could be an ideal pathway for clean production of solar fuels. In this work, a mixed metal oxide/graphitic-C3 N4 (MMO@C3 N4 ) composite was synthesized as a dual-functional photocatalyst for both water oxidation and oxygen reduction to generate H2 O2 . The MMO was derived from a NiFe-layered double hydroxide (LDH) precursor for obtaining a high dispersion of metal oxides on the surface of the C3 N4 matrix.
