The naked pupae of chestnut leafminer Cameraria ohridella are susceptible for entomopathogenic fungi Paecilomyces fumosoroseus strain P6; Lecanicillium muscarium strain V24; Metarhizium anisopliae strain M72 and Beauveria bassiana strain B412. Their activity at low temperature is advantageous especially for the use in the winter season. (Richter et al., 2007a). Therefore the possibility of infection should be examined in biotest for pupae in their pupal cells on leaf of chestnut at conditions Like in winter. Efficacy of entomopathogenic fungi is decreased, if pupae are in their pupal cells. But fungi, especially L. muscarium, proved the ability to infect pupae of C. ohridella in their pupal cells. Infected pupae moulded in their pupal cells after application. Infection doesn't come from spores. In semi field trials with L. muscarium 60% of pupae were infected in their pupal cells and died after incubation with mouldiness.

Butterfly wing eyespots are developmentally determined at the early pupal stage, when prospective eyespot focal cells underneath the pupal cuticle focal spot function as eyespot organizers in the pupal wing tissue. Here, we performed light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to describe cellular structures of pupal wing tissue with an eyespot organizer immediately after pupation using the Blue Pansy butterfly Junonia orithya. The pupal forewing dorsal epidermis was a pseudostratified monolayer of vertically elongated epidermal cells.

In many taxa, increasing attention is being paid to how group living shapes the expression of brain plasticity and behavioural flexibility. In eusocial insects, the lifelong commitment of workers and queens to a reproductive or non-reproductive caste is accompanied by a loss of behavioural totipotency, and often, by the expression of a limited behavioural repertoire in workers due to their specialisation. On the other hand, individuals of solitary species have a broader behavioural repertoire as they have to perform all the tasks themselves.

During their final transformation, insects emerge from the pupal case and deploy their wings within minutes. The wings deploy from a compact origami structure, to form a planar and rigid blade that allows the insect to fly. Deployment is powered by a rapid increase in internal pressure, and by the subsequent flow of hemolymph into the deployable wing structure.
